Hi!

how can you loose 1 of 24 words? a very curious case...

it sounds like a job for https://walletrecoveryservices.com/; maybe you can negotiate a better price because yours should be rather easy.

btw, this topic is in the wrong subforum...

good luck, Chiro

nothing to see here!

Do you still have control on your wallet, can you access to your coins? If that is the case then is best to send your coins to other wallets and reset your Ledger Nano S to make new seed.In order to to that, after your coins are in new wallet you just need to enter incorrect pin 3 times and then start with setup to create new seed.

If you do not have access to your wallet and you lost one of the seed words I think you have big problem, maybe you have some chance to get that lost word-but you will need to know where is that missing word in sequence of 24 words.

Did you backup your ledger pin code? If you did, your coins are probably safe

One can of beer is good for three dozen tries.

Get a ten six packs next to your computer.

You are fixed up.

It is not a nightmare to make 2100 different tentatives

Even at 3-4 tries a minute, with a 50% to catch the right word after 1000 tries, it is a matter of few hours of work

Is the position of the missing word in the 24 word sequence known?

This is a very good question!

Without knowing the position, tries are 2100 * 24 = over 50k tries

More or less a full month trying the proper combination, without sleeping, eating, drinking, taking a shower

Will follow how this problem will be solved...

if you are programmer you can write small code to brutforce it. Or you can hire someone. Good luck

the 24th word should be a checksum, so it can be generated from the other 23.

search for bip39 checksum

the 24th word should be a checksum, so it can be generated from the other 23.

search for bip39 checksum

8 of the 11 bits represented by the last word are a checksum. 3 bits are part of the seed. That means that nominally, only eight words from the dictionary would complete a full set of 24. That's actually true in any position if you know where the word is missing. The complexity of the checksum though requires a program to find the eight possible words. (I think someone hereabouts wrote a script to do exactly that...)

This means you only have to try eight word sets in the Ledger. If you don't know the position of the missing word (but know that the other 23 are otherwise in the correct order), then you'll have to try 24*8 = 192 sets.

The simplest way to handle thia without having to resort to any scripting or bruteforcing is to manually move your bitcoins out of your Ledger Nano S using your PIN, which I assume you still know, then resetting it to a new wallet so that you get a new seed phrase, and then moving your bitcoins back in. This does have the consequence that you will not have control over any bitcoins sent to any of your old addresses and also that you need an intermediary to hold your coins while you reset your Ledger Nano S, but it is the simplest method available. Good luck.

The signature campaign posters adding useless redundant fluff to their posts to reach their minimum word count are lowering my IQ.

Hi there,
If you want I can have a go retrieving the missing word

The 24th word is a checksum word and can aid in recovering the missing word,

Good point. Information from the checksum likely defines which of the 2100 words is the missing one. Or reduces the possibilities to a handful.

EDIT: I just saw #13, it handles this in a comprehensive sense.
