Depending on the country you live in, airdrops or free coins by PoS change your portfolio from this coin from speculation to yields (? google translator, sorry) because you made money from them ( = staking, airdrops).
What about hardforks? There you get free coins from a different currency as well sometimes?

people say hardfork is done for improvement in coin tech, so basicaly it split your coin and you receive new coin with 1:1 scale. Yeah its free but soometimes useless fork with no meaning except to make profit for dev. some fork have ton of premine coin
