The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

This is not quite true. This is a promo price that someone is offering to their past customers. My past customers at old higher prices have been contacted if they are able to buy at promo/coupon price. Several group buys exist including mine to buy at current prices.

The headline of your post is incorrect.  There has not been a new price change.
You are confusing the issue with Arklan's posts on his very first group buy of USB Block Eruptor miners.

This gets so annoying.

No official announcement > resellers suddenly do price drop, seemingly unorganized.

No official announcement > some resellers already collecting orders for lower coupon price, two saying that 100% of past purchases can be coupon'd somewhere in relation to August 10th.

No official announcement > crap like this article gets circulated.

We've got BFL who rocks at communication, Avalon who randomly disappears and has shipments from three batches in disarray, KNC and Bitfury who are making bold promises but are still collecting pre-orders, HashFast / FastHash / BTCGarden / etc. all saying they are gonna dump TH's like it is going out of style but no real meat to their arguments or verified hardware.

This industry is just one big clusterf*ck after another. Cheesy  Mind you it is a rollercoaster ride for everyone involved, but seriously, with AsicMiner being the only vendor who is really living up to their word in product availability and delivery, can they at least provide some decent customer communication?  Right now everything is filtered through X folks who have had their own conversations with the grilla, feels more like we're playing spy vs. spy than talking about any legitimate businesses in BTC-Land.

THIS IS NOT A PRICE DROP.

Misleading article is misleading.

This is just the .1 buys for 30% of people who bought at 1.01BTC or more.

Read it properly before making stupid thread titles like this Wink

Seriously, the business end of BTC looks like snake oil almost 99.9% of the time.  There is no way of knowing that, say, buying a KNC Saturn will provide ROI.  Bitfury should be shipping this month, but who knows.  There may be a million Avalon chips in the wild in China, but again who knows?  BFL... well they're shipping, whether they stay in business who knows, and they seem to have no 2014 plan other than shipping products sans ROI.  And all these new players, all may deliver, all may blow up.  Could even be a few in the woodworks who end up carving out 40% of the network on a private farm and just milk Bitcoin exchanges dry.

This is an industry still its infancy and not may players are reliable or are selling anything that you can estimate is worth the money unless you get it tomorrow.  And right now AM is in the camp of a swarm of rumors but nothing to back it up except a few people here offering coupon sales, a few there offering low/lower prices, etc., etc.

As a group who has invested in BTC we want to see it succeed, but honestly I can't see how new people are getting on board every day due to the general clusterfuck nature of things these days.

excuse me, but the creators of state of things as they are purported by the bolded text are not friedcat or well established resellers... anyone can start the rumor mill here and I supose anyone can get baited by one and start writing uncontrollably and with a hot head...

yes people do the math. at .48btc a stick roi will happen in 100 -120 days if hash rate growth slows. many people believe that hash rate/ diff growth will flatten out.

I know nothing about writing with a hot head. Wink

Oh no, don't get me wrong, the only reliable people on here are the ones who deliver.  And as far as vendors, AsicMiner is the only one with credibility since they do what they say, they just don't say a lot often enough to limit the amount of FUD and what'ifs.  I've got an order in with BFL, am involved in a BFL chip + hardware buy with Lucko, have shares in a KNC Jupiter, as well as shares on Havelock and BTCT with various projects.  This is mainly because nobody has a freaking clue what is coming next.  I won't piss more money into the wind for hardware that may not matter when it shows up.

Every other week it seems like there is a new IPO (every one of which turns into a grab'n'dump clustermess), same with new Asic companies.  Nobody has anything to deliver but promises as long as they have their cash up front so you can land [target hashrate] at [predicted time], but buy now because quantities will be limited when/if delivered!  But since there are so many (and so many rumors), nobody can tell (using KNC as an example) if 100GH/s will even matter in October, if it should even ship in October.

When referring to the grand clusterfuck of BTC, I mean things like

a) Pricing that can vary greatly if someone has a few million USD to spend or a few thousand BTC to dump.  This makes it tough for BTC to expand out to any businesses not selling virtual goods or directly involved in the BTC industry.
b) Many vendors are promising similar delivery timeframes and huge batches of hardware.  Who will deliver?  Who will go Avalon and look good at first but screw up down the line?  Who will go BFL and sell a good story but have a terribly rocky road and a reputation in the dirt at the end of the day?  And what if they all deliver?  When I ordered my BFL LS it seemed like a great deal of Price/Hash, right now I'm running a USB farm at over 30GH and the daily return isn't that great.
c) Unless people have other motives for what a crypto currency provides, new people coming into the industry have no less than 4000 pages of forum threads to read to have any clue what is going on because even then there is no real way to know what anyone is delivering until they deliver, or has to pick and choose if they believe the KNC thread where people are hyping their professionalism and their partnership or the one where people are questioning the lack of any physical hardware to demonstrate.

The whole BTC industry is a mess.  Things are getting better, we likely won't be able to have this same discussion in Feb/2014, but right now things are a hot mess.

The implication is that old stock is being cleared.

I guess it's a matter of waiting for the truth to come out.

Does that mean they are clearing old stock to prepare for a new version of the miner?
Or just get rid of every ASICMiner USB out there?
