US authorities are seeking the extradition of a 28-year-old Irishman described in the High Court by an FBI special agent as "the largest facilitator of child porn on the planet."

Eric Eoin Marques appeared before Mr Justice Paul Gilligan on foot of an extradition request by the FBI, which alleges he is involved in the distribution of online child pornography.

Not really bitcoin related, but since alot of bitcoin users are using tormail its worth posting i guess.

It's bitcoin related too, it was only last month that he launched "Onion Bank":

Quote
16th July 2013 The launch of a new service: Onion Bank.
It has been two years since the open registration of new
Freedom Hosting accounts was closed, and replaced with an invite only
system, which was done to prevent DDoS attacks.

I initially said there would be an option to purchase an
account for a low price of $5 with bitcoins but nothing ever came of
this, mainly because there was no easy way of accepting bitcoins on an
onion site without having to install the bitcoin software.

This gave me the idea that I should create one, a site
where merchants can signup and easily accept bitcoins on their onion
sites.

I created Onion Bank, which has been in (slow) development for almost two years!

Originally it was supposed to include an anonymous exchange between Liberty Reserve and Bitcoins, but since the closing of LR it has now become a bitcoin only site.

One of the problems with using bitcoin on the Tor network is anonymity, bitcoins have a blockchail which can link your purchase or sale of bitcoins at exchanges with the sites that accept them, to use them anonymously a shared wallet/laundry system is required. Onion Bank does all of this and more, the ability to accept and spend bitcoins anonymously.

Using Onion Bank you can accept bitcoins on your site, complete automation is possible.

You can also setup a simple payment/donation link for your site.

Features include...
 Merchant Services SCI/IPN.
 Multiple Identities under one account.
Generates a new bitcoin address for every transaction.
 Escrow.
 Laundering.

Visit Onion Bank at http://onionbank6fdaccy.onion/
You can also test it out with testnet bitcoins at http://obtestnetmeczlkn.onion/

Now the interesting question is, how did he get caught?

I'm inclined to believe that his hidden services was compromised, which could be possible, as explained in an in-depth analysis of the Tor network only a few months back [source].

I don't think he was caught due to using a liberty reserve account, there would be too many users to single out, he never actually launched any service with liberty reserve, and even if he did his liberty reserve account would be pretty much anonymous as well. Seems like a dead end.

A compromised hidden service on the other hand could be fatal, depending on where the servers are located and how he accesses and pay for them.

its not like they do anything useful.
they start more wars than they finish
they pollute the environment because they cant get more than 10hp per engine without Europes help
and as far as i know they dont make anything useful that the Chinese couldn't make better

hell Canada more useful than the us

the only time the US gets on tv is either a mass shooting or there going to war with yet another country

Libertyreserve transactions i guess?

I suspect they did something server-side to reveal identities. Maybe?

you might have lost those bitcoins for good as i dont think tormail have backups...... and if its the FBI involved then nothing is going to happen for possibly 1-2 years. look at mega upload the fight is still going on over a year later

i think anonymous should start worrying about now, next is silk road, after that then its anonymous and if they can hack into FH and defeat everything the designers of tor have designed TOR to do then it wont be long before the FBI target a Anonymous website find a small chink in the sites armor and hunt down anyone visiting that site...

alot of very smart people designed TOR

It is highly recommended that you switch to another method when using Tor, if you haven't already.

"Tails" is a bootable distribution that incorporates all the latest security fixes, and can be loaded on a thumbdrive as well.

I guess we learned another thing about centralization being bad, if all those servers hosting .onion sites were spread far and wide, it would've been more difficult to engineer this kind of thing.

to true but people are to lazy to go hunting for hosts they can use there own equipment and security with. everything has to be quick and simple
