Hello,

I have recently acquired this domain name under godaddy auctions. Seeing as I have absolutely no use for it, I figure it would be more useful in the hands of someone willing to use it. Proof of ownership will be shown to anybody that shows interest in this auction. There has already been a bid for the sum of $25,000. If anybody is willing to bid higher feel free to contact me over the forums.

For security purposes the only payment option I will accept is international USD wire transfer. Also I did not post this in the marketplace since this isn't a usual offer and is treated as such.

      Regards, Btc Trader

HAHAHA sure there has.  Better hope that person isn't looking here, because you'll be lucky to get $25 for it.

Just because you go around flaunting your net worth, doesn't mean other people aren't willing to pay a premium for items with estimated and legitimate value.

Every second that passes where you haven't sold your stupid domain name for $25,000 just solidifies that you are lying and completely missed the mark on trying to pump your toilet site.

Your highest actual bid appears to be 5 bitcoins, which is, astonishingly, still a profit for you.  Take it, don't be a fool.

Just because you're angry you didn't jump on the bitcoin bandwagon early enough doesn't mean you have to take out your anger on an internet post. You should really see a therapist about it, I can see the fumes coming from your post. It's not healthy.

I'm not angry, I'm elated at all the deceptive practices that bitcoin enthusiasts will employ to milk actual money from other bitcoin enthusiasts. Smiley

The US is the main bitcoin market. If you are attempting to reach an American audience, then this is a must have domain. The opportunity to purchase a premium domain like this doesn't present itself often.

You say this like its hard to reach an American audiance if you have a different domain name. Ever heard of mtgox?

Take the 5 btc and sit on it, maybe in a few years that 5 btc will be worth 25k.

Help Bitcoins by buying clothes, technology, books, etc. through people/stores that accept BTC. This will increase overall value of BTC as well as mitigate unnecessary bank transaction fees.

Dear sir,

I am most delighted to hear of your generous offer regarding the PURCHASE of the bitcom.us domain. This domain is a most essential asset for any entrepreneur seeking to expand bitcoin in the US territories.

I would take this opportunity to present my own offer to the respectable gentlemen reading these here internet forums: I have in my possession the United States trademark over the "BITCOIN" word mark. This mark was originally registered by attorney at law Michael S. Pascazi, who unfortunately passed away without leaving a will or surviving family. As his business partner, I have decided to sell this most exquisite trademark before it's claimed by the government of our country, Botswana.
I have already received a generous offer of ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS for the purchase of this trademark, and I am open to any competing bids. For security purposes the only payment option I will accept is international USD wire transfer.

Regards,
Mutombo Trollondo

The funniest troll comment I have seen. Good job on wasting ten minutes of thought that could've benefited anything else. Except a few seconds of entertainment your comment was worthless. I'm just trying to sell something for the price I was offered. If you don't have enough money for the purchase then don't waste your time.
That few seconds if entertainment is why everyone is still reading this thread.

Are you guys fucking kidding me? 5 Bitcoins for this premium domain name? I can't take any of you seriously.

Hell, I would bid on this all day. You guys obviously don't understand the value of a domain name with 'bitcoin' within it. Yet alone, it has a 'us' tld, which seems to target any service for the united states perfectly.

I don't have 25k but I would definitely be willing to bid from 5 Bitcoins

Ha. Hahahaha. Haha.

Because Europe totally doesn't play a role in the distribution of Bitcoin nodes.

Also, just a tip: if you really want to sell that domain name, it may help to be a bit less hostile towards the community here.

I know the inherent value of the domain having Bitcoin in it, but this is not a marketplace and you are throwing a fairly assumed value with that price, this is not the place to advertise it

Why? So you can sell it on? There's tons of good bitcoin / BTC domain names left, .us domains require the person buying it to be in the USA, and the domain is not even of the form "verb us". A dot com or dot net with a memorable name would be far superior IMO. I personally wouldn't pay more than 3 BTC for it

LOL after LOL. Probably one of the funniest reply I never saw on this forum.

Btw for the domain as you can see I think people here don't have money over 25k$. Assuming this offer is true don't waste your time on this forum to try to sell it more.

For reference, to the morons who fail to see value in domainnames, Bitcoin.de and Bitcoins.de, sold for €14,875 ($21,420) earlier this year. US is a larger market (at least for now). Personally i consider 25k as a reasonable price for the .us.

So the fact that I own bitcoingeek.com and have just had a blank wordpress install sitting on it is either very dumb or very smart, depending on whether I understood its worth?

Worth is estimated by the consumers. The worth of this domain was bestowed upon it by the first bidder. Seeing has there has been no other bids; that could cap off this domains worth.
If by some remarkable chance that totally not-made-up $25k bid falls through, you might try starting a bit lower next time.  And maybe accepting Bitcoins instead of only USD?

Quote
But value fluctuates as popularity rises. People tend to flock towards familiar names. Familiarity is key in this consumer market. Especially with computer illiterates flooding the market.
LOL yeah there's nothing more familiar to most people than .us domains.  After .com, .org, .net, .biz and .co.uk, it's always the first thing I go to.

No need for the snarky cynicism. But please go on.
Yes, I'm being a bit snarky, but come on:  you're trying to rip someone off and trick them into paying WAY too much for a domain name you squatted on with a made-up story of a huge cash offer.  Who do you think you're fooling?

Even if the story was made up. This would be the correct price it is worth. It has the name bitcoin in it. And I based my price off the price of bitcoin.de. Just because you can't afford it, doesn't mean its a rip off.

IMHO, bitcoin.de (assuming you can trust sedo's price quotes anyway) is a great name for a Bitcoin exchange native to Germany - having the plural to grab typos as well is just a bonus.

Dot-US? Not so much. When I see .us domain names, unless it's something cute like min.us, all I think of is that the person was too cheap to spring for a .com. For the USA, .com is king - .us is just a half-arse attempt at the USA pretending they don't own the majority of the DNS infrastructure.

If you've got an offer for $25k USD, take it.

The only person a domain name is valuable to, is an SEO.

As they understand that there IS value in the domain name, but that value is only there if you set shit up right to make sure you get your money from the SERPS.  Buying a domain name that specific without those intentions is pretty damn retarded, all the extra SEO work could be used to make a site with better content.

As though SEO's care about content though lol

People who can't understand the value of domain names will never understand the value of domain names.  Embarrassed

Huh what? SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization, it's not a person. A webmaster doing SEO on their website will however value such steps to get a good ranking in search engines (like a tld with 'bitcoin' in it).

SEO isn't easy, you'll have to edit a lot of your content to make it include your targeted keywords. I do have a website ranked 11th in a keyword with a 200k search volume / month, but that's as far as I'm willing to take it. LOL.

SEO Is also a job type, "Search Engine Optimizer", I can assure you a million percent that is a real job and real job title Wink

Every person should do proper "SEO" work on their sites initially, but I am gearing my response more toward the people that would care that much over such a domain name, they better be putting that extra worth in to get the value out of that domain.

Also, you need to start going for number one with terms Smiley   Only go for number 1, or honestly don't try (I know this is a general statement, there is obviously enough terms out there worth grabbing for almost any spot, but I like to think bigger).

My bad, I thought you meant Search Engine Optimization, didn't know it could go both ways with the 'O'. It would be stupid having bought bitcoin.us with no intention of doing any SEO.

This!   Which though I know the value of the Bitcoin.us domain, here in the general Bitcoin Discussion forum, I assure you the percent of people that browse here that would know how to set it up just decently has to be in the single digits.   I truly believe someone with that much extra cash would buy it thinking that the name within the domain itself is enough to rank better than a site with the same type, but better content.

LOL @ people that see no value in domains.  HAHAHA.

Domains are how I make a living.  I don't own any .us as it's too localized and too regulated by the US Gov. as it is their ccTLD.  They can shut down or revoke the domain any time they like.  Which is why I generally stay away from .us.  Don't have any.  Won't have any.

LOL @ people that call domain investors squatters.

Gee, I really like that land on the beach that no one is building on.  How come I can't have it?  Because someone else invested in it first.  A true generic domain has value no matter what.  It's the exact same as holding land in the best location for your store, only online.  "Location, location, location."  People will remember it.  People will come back.  And people will type the domain in their browsers.

And it's value is not limited to SEO.  Corporations see huge positives in owning a generic domains.  They pay millions for them.  Not only will they dominate the SERPS but their consumers will easily remember how to come back.

But this domain is not worth 25k.  Maybe 2 to 4k.  Sorry.

Oh, this isn't an appraisal thread?

Here's a link to comb over for this years domain sales.

I just wanted to add a thought.  This will bring you a whole new class of investors with deep pockets and are websavvy with business online. You make a large sale for a bitcoin domain in BTC.  Just make sure you publish it in the above link.  Have Ron who runs DNJ post the BTC total and the dollar equivalent at the time of sale.  They will FLOCK to bitcoin in droves.

With the big Bitcoin.de sales earlier referenced in this thread and on my above link.  It will get press.

I laughed so hard I almost pissed my pants.

kind of funny how almost every website i visit never has a name like business.com or what not.
it is always something made up/catchy/goofy/short/memorable...
it is the content or the excellent service that makes a website great.. not the domain name.

for example newegg.com. a 10-20 dollar domain picked long after the domain name leg humping was
over by claiming everything generic.

.de is better than .us because Germans consider it their main tld, whereas .com holds that place for Americans, due to the majority of .com websites being in English.

Man trust me..  I own Yooter InterActive... I've been doing SEO since Altavista was the largest search engine back in 1994...  that domain name isn't going to do anything to help someone rank....

he'll get a .00000000000000000000001% boost for having the domain name in the url...  he would have gotten the same effect with a third level name... IE:  bitcoin.ANYDOMAIN.com

.com's still have type in value (although less than before)  ... anything other than that and your throwing money at something you can't brand...  "hi we're bitcoin.info!  come over and see our killer website"

get a domain name that you can brand.

Bam.  The future will be this.  Keywords and domains will be pulling less and less rank. Google know they have been gamed so have been adjusting the algorithms which I think will filter all the link banks and bs.   Just everyone focus on making the best sites possible Smiley

>IMHO< a site named bitcoin.us sounds as trustworthy as mafia.biz :-/
Most users don't like .info,.biz,.us because sites with these endings are often just filled up with scam. So if you really have an 25.000$ offer for that .us domain, take it!

Congratulations you just made a case for why purchasing this domain is a BAD IDEA. Your domain "bitcoin.us" is the facebook equivelant of "shareyourinfo.com". Its not a catchy brandable domain its an exact description.

And please .us domains and worthless - show me one quality .us website. The only people buying shitting 1 word .us domains is guys like you looking to either flip them for a buck or put up spammy low level info websites.

and to top it off you start off with a bullshit story about already having an offer for 25k - you deserve to be flamed for lying.

Well I got spoiled back in the day, when you could order up hundreds from the NIC on a "pay later if you find them worth keeping, if not no sweat just let the free trial expire" basis, and even when eBay finally happened along I didn't get so much as a bid on the matched set windows.{com, net, org} ... eBay still hasn't paid me the $3.50 they still keep reminding me they owe me for the $3.50 I deposited with them against the chance someone might buy thus that I might owe them for the service of auctioning them off for me...

-MarkM- (Truly, not even a bid of a penny, let alone enough to actually pay the NIC for them at end of trial period!)

I haven't heard of a single one of those sites. Money well-wasted if you ask me.

Help Bitcoins by buying clothes, technology, books, etc. through people/stores that accept BTC. This will increase overall value of BTC as well as mitigate unnecessary bank transaction fees.

Just checking the first few links.  Social.com has nothing up, but I think we all can see the value in that domain.  DomainName.com, smart, a person is paying their bills with that site and that was just bought a couple of months ago.   Aktien.de is new, will give it time to see what they are up to.

RunningShoes.com, this one seems like someone with a grasp of the value of a domain, and will probably succeed based on that alone, but I think that site could be coded for SERPs better, but visually they look like every other site that would do shoes e-commerce, they'll be fine.

I can go no further, most of these seem like decent buys.

The domain is definitely worth more than 5 BTC...

Everything in this world is worth exactly what people are willing AND ABLE to pay for it.  Everything.

you also need ability to pay to drive demand, not just a willingness.

the fact that i'd be willing to pay $40 billion for a space hotel doesn't help much if i don't have the cash Smiley

Willing to pay indicates someone, somewhere, has the ability and will spend it; thought that was implied.  It was a sense of a market pool of people, not approaching 1 person.

In other words, if you put a car on ebay and nobody is willing to pay $25,000, but instead $10,000, then that car is worth $10,000.

Yeah I ended up selling this awhile ago. I didn't even know this was in general discussion. What's with the necro-bump?
