Unfortunately there is no sure way of telling what vRam a card might have until you plug it in.

The vram is not cooled on these, it's only getting some airflow from the fans, but no rads are in contact with the memory chips. The fans are pretty bad, sleeve bearings might fail within a year (got a couple of those failed already). So, as usual, it's all about the price, if they're a lot cheaper than other brands then they might be worth considering. Otherwise I'd get something else. or should i put a little extra in and get a gigabyte You don't simply "get a gigabyte", there's plenty of crap made by gigabyte as well. Do your research, lots of reviews out there, see how the cooling is done, especially how the vram and vrm are cooled, and what kind of fans are used.

thinking to buy 2 of these tommorow and start up a small rig, then buy 2 more next month, are these decent? If you're ready to buy 2 right now and then 2 more next month, then just get one of these now instead: https://www.cclonline.com/product/242962/GTX-1070-TI-GAMING-8G/Graphics-Cards/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1070-Ti-GAMING-8G-8GB-Graphics-Card-PCI-Express-3-0-x16-DisplayPort/HDMI/DL-DVI-D/VGA3971/And then buy one more the next month. This thing is ~ 2 times faster than gtx 1060 on most algos, but it costs less than a couple of 1060s, it consumes less power than 2x1060 cards, and it takes one slot instead of two (in a typical 8-slot mining rig, one slot costs ~ $40, so you're also saving those every time you get one 1070 ti instead of two 1060s). On top of that, it also has a proper cooler where all vram chips are cooled with a separate rad, there's a decent main rad for the gpu, and there are two good fans with ball bearings. GTX 1060 cards are only good when you can buy them for ~ $200 or less. I'd also get 3gb versions if I was buying 1060s, simply because the vast majority of algos don't need much ram and even 3gb is plenty. But if the choice is between 1060/6 and 1070 Ti, and with the prices you've got with that store — I'd say go for the latter.

The 1070ti does not perform higher than 2 gtx 1060s. e.g ZEC 310x2 sol/s to 560 sol/s or ETH 20x2 Mh/s to 31 MH/s. the 1060s are the best bang for the buck card out there.

No one said it "performs higher", the exact words were "~ 2 times faster than gtx 1060 on most algos". If you're mining ETH with nvidia cards then you're doing it wrong. And with equihash yes, two 1060s will be ~ 10% faster than a single 1070 Ti. But they're also at least 10% more expensive in the topic starter's case.

. Please do tell which algos other than ethash and equihash does the 1070 perform "~ 2 times faster than gtx 1060"
Most of the algos that are good for nvidia cards. Do I really have to spell it out? Lyra2REv2, LBRY, Skunk, Keccak, NIST5, x17 etc etc. All the stuff that is usually most profitable for nvidia cards is ~ 2 times faster on 1070 Ti than on 1060.

Just took a peek at whattomine.com (not the best but gives a good rough estimate). None of the top coins for those algos are "~ 2 times faster than gtx 1060" when using a 1070ti. And even if you find a coin that isnt listed the cost of the 1070ti itself is more than 2 times the cost of a GTX 1060.

Well, then keep using whattomine and keep mining ZEC and ETH with your nvidia cards while I'll be mining other algos and make 2+ times more money with them. Thank you for staying away from the more profitable coins (and thus allowing them to maintain reasonable diff), much appreciated! Buy 1060s then, and I'll keep buying 1070 Tis and 1080 Tis.

Instead of getting the newer Kaby Lake G3930, find the older Skylake-gen Celeron G3900. If they aren't available from online/local stores, you can always get a used one from ebay, cpus are pretty much indestructible so if you can save some money by buying used then go for it.

You're welcome. Not everyone is capable of sinking large sums to purchase premium gpus right away and taking on more risk than they need to. Enjoy editing bat files, downloading numerous wallets for every appealing coin out there, finding the most profitable pool and dealing with changing coins on a daily/ weekly basis and tweaking your setup. Dont forget to keep refreshing that wallet the coins are going to be there any minute now.... Please excuse me while I go enjoy life.

Fair enough. Tracking profitable coins to mine does take quite a lot of time and effort indeed. We all have different priorities, I totally get it.
