You don't buy gas. Ethereum's transaction fee system is complex. Either way, this is a bitcoin forum. You will probably get better answers to your Ethereum questions on an Ethereum forum, such as https://forum.ethereum.org/

Basically for the same reason you leave a fee when creating a bitcoin transaction: so the miners have an incentive to add your tx to the block they're currently working on. Cheaping out on the fee will usually lead to delayed confirmation time, dropped transactions or improper propagation.

please be aware that GAS for ETHEREUM is not something you can buy seperatly!
The GAS you are about to buy are the dividends from the NEO blockchain!

Gas for ether you could see as a 'fictional' fuel to pay your transaction with.
when doing a transaction, you personally set the gas limit e.g. 200000 gas for which you set your own price per gas (GWEI)
this calculates back to an amount of ether you are to pay for the transaction,
which will be rewarded to the miner who mines the block with your transaction in it.
