I only ban them when the starting block, synced headers and synced blocks are way off. I've only seen a couple lately. Less than version 2.0.0 is getting rare

Users are to lazy. There should be be a way to force upgrades to the newer releases of the wallet software. Thats my reason for asking about the possibility to connect only to newer nodes down to previous 2.0.9 (DeepSend ready) if you run the actual 2.1.1 release.

Fragmentation is part of decentralization. Forcing all the users to switch is inconvenient and not all of them may agree with the newest updates. However, the majority will always create the longest chain, causing old wallets to soft fork into their own independent chain and losing valuable staking time. I can see 70% of the nodes running the latest DeepSend wallet: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/onion/#!network
