Is binance down or is it just me?
The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

It seems to be incredibly slow today. This is quite unusual for Binance, which has always been crispy smooth.

Also if you are going to use Binance, be sure to take advantage of this service:

Its up now and running fine. Though it was creating some problem before just like it was lagging a bit and prices were getting updated little slowly. But now I guess its completed and working smoothly. Though not sure about its mobile app if it had any slowness being observed or not.

I thought it was just me or my PC, so it happened to everyone, though everything seems to be going fine now. Probably, there was a platform upgrade going on yesterday. Binance all the way and I hope they keep getting better and not end up behaving like some exchanges that starts good and end up missing it along the road.

They're having maintenance untill 2-3PM euro time or so they announced on their twitter. Been like that for ~5 hours already.

@binance_2017 5 hours ago A system maintenance is in progress, some users may experience a temporary decrease in exchange performance while this in underway.Thank you for your understanding.

https://twitter.com/binance_2017/status/961397899241254914

@cz_binance 4 hours ago We experienced a server issue on our replica database cluster, causing some data to be out of sync. Need to fully resync from master. Due the size of the data, it will take several hours. No data is lost. We appreciate your understanding and support.

https://twitter.com/cz_binance/status/961429082310258688

@cz_binance 2 hours ago Still waiting on data copy, it will take a while, another 10 hrs at the current estimate. Due to the unexpected length of time, we will allow 30 mins for people to withdraw orders before trading resumes when system is back.

cz_binance 2 hours ago sorry guys, not something we want either. We didn't have a choice, other than trying to fix it as soon as possible for our users. One of our team literally threw up after the calculation arrived at 10 hours.

They are on maintenance and the problem seem to be few more hours left before they will resolve it.

As chuckblocker posted, go to those tweets and check it what's happening on their exchange. They are not hacked and I'm not using them but I'm curious with the current noise that they are making from this simple maintenance.

Data recovery was successful and we are in the process of prepping the system for return of services. We do not have an exact ETA to provide for this process but we expect at least another 1-2 hours. We appreciate your patience and we hope to be operating normally again shortly.

So they stall once again another 1-2hours, that's the 4th. stall now.

Yeah... glad I didn't set an alarm for their original ETA.

Latest ETA for 3 different methods of data recovery:
Method 1: ETA 1-2 hours from now.
Method 2: ETA 5 hours from now.
Method 3: 9 hours from now.
Method 3 was the original method, but was too slow.  Will keep updates more frequent as time becomes closer.

I bet it's gonna be method 3 for +infinity hours. They said method 1 is good and 2-3 more hrs but I'm not buying anything they announce anymore.

So why doesn't a billion dollar company like Binance have a full disaster recovery center at another location that they can flip over to anytime it's needed rather than having a 30 hour outage so far?

All of our engines are back online and we are processing data validation for pre-trading at the moment.

We hope to have an updated, accurate ETA to provide shortly. Thank you again for your patience; we are in the final stages of preparing the exchange for normal operations.

Getting close to the 30th hour of the one hour maintenance. Fingers crossed this time.

Fingers crossed as well.

But this, folks, is a great example of why you should never store your funds on an exchange and use it as a wallet. Storing some of your funds on an exchange for the short term is fine, provided that you are willing to take the risks. But storing the majority of your portfolio there is just dumb.

Not only do you have a risk of getting your funds stolen/hacked, in an event of a maintenance just like Binance's current maintenance that has been going on for ages, you are prone to market fluctuation.

It is much more flexible, and safe, to store your funds in a wallet instead of exchange.

It's being operated by money hungry baboons looking to save as much as possible on everything, because every penny saved means an extra penny that they can add up to grow their liquid capital. It's getting a bit annoying because of how people start speculating about a hack and whatnot, which is only getting worse the longer it takes for Binance to return. I think exchanges should publicly list their hot and cold wallet addresses to (1) show proof of their solvency in terms of digital assets, and (2) to make people feel more comfortable when an exchange is going through a lengthy maintenance session. As long as the funds remain where they are, it will give people a peace of mind, which is the most important thing. Let's see if they beat Kraken in terms of remaining offline. Roll Eyes
