It can be, ripple continuously moving upward and it can replace bitcoin as the 1st cryptocurrency. However, ripple will drop faster and it cannot be stayed at the top. Ripple has issue in centralization and centralization of ripple will affect its price.
Bitcoin also has the lightning networks that I think will be the asset of bitcoin. Bitcoin holders and users will now appreciate more reliable and fast transaction with low fees.

It is hard to tell as of now, but if a lot of people find Ripple more convenient for micro-transactions, it would pose as the biggest risk for Bitcoin since banks are behind Ripple.

first define "overtake"...

in market capitalization?
yes there is a good chance XRP will be have so much bigger market cap one way or another. either it will be pumped to nearly $6 to get there or they will release another massive supply that will help the push upwards.

in trading volume? maybe for a couple of days before falling down
in price? not a chance
in usage? LOL
in adoption? LOL x2

Those days ripple is doing really well, it has more than half of bitcoin market cap and has 19% market dominance.
I hate ripple as a cryptocurrency as it's centralized, now seems that ripple is the queen, not ethereum.

That really is making me upset but I want to hear your thoughts.
Ripple cannot overtake bitcoin despite coming into prominence in the last couple of days ago due to it's market capitalization, bitcoin has been in existence for 9 years and has become so popular that it is being adopted by many countries recent news indicates that bitcoin has increase Japan GDP by 0.3% and so many positive news about bitcoin as it is decentralized.
However ripple being centralized is big disadvantage to the coin as investors dislikes a third party controlled coin.

So many see centralisation as a problem.  Perhaps many people coming into cryptocurrencies now dont mind?

It sometimes goes like that, as ripple and any other cryptocurrencies are dependable of the market demand.
And as we knew about market trend of ripple, it could be consider that someday it will be a ripple day. But considering that ethereum is exemplary performer since from the start, still ethereum is on the top among altcoins.

i think ripple will not  overtake bitcoin judging from the price of it its still far away its more like 0.0000001% of the bitcoin. may be eth has a potential to overtake bitcoin or maybe the bitcoin cash in the future.but this ripple i dont think so.may be someday it will crash but still we dont know.

I agree, if we look at the history of the ripple, an increase like this happened in the year 2017 exactly in April. Ripple skyrocketed to 0.0002 btc / ripple then fell back. I think this will most likely happen again this year. But at least in 1 month, this is the trend of the rippe, instead of bitcoin or ethereum so that market cap and volume rise significantly.

Well for me, i guess ripple can not overtake bitcoin as the king of cryptocurrency. The main reason for that is because ripple is a centralized coins. People who loves and understand cryptocurrency knows that "centralized thing" is not a good thing because the market can be manipulated easily by the central people. And i believe all this pump (beside the initial pump by the central) happen because all people who only wants profit, join the pump too. People sooner or later will dump ripple if they think they have enough profit from it.

Ripple can't overtake bitcoin, ripple will crash and go back below $1! altcoins are on the rise at this moment, but they will fall again and all those money made off on alts will flow back in to bitcoin.
