I use Electrum for Bitcoin. Primarily because i have access to my private key whenever i want.
For ERC20 coins (Etherum included) i use MyEtherWallet (MEW)

The best wallet for storing your tokens are blockchain.info for Bitcoin and myetherwallet for etherium and erc20 based tokens. If you are trader then it is best to store your tokens at the exchange like Poloniex or Bittrex because they are well know. You can also store your tokens at hardware wallet like ledger nano and trade with etherdelta.

Coinomi is a multi-asset wallet that supports every cryptocurrency and token you can dream of.  Using ShapeShift, they allow easy exchanges between any of the supported assets from within the interface. No identity-linking, no IP or transaction tracking, and your IP is even filtered through their servers for added anonymity. Its easy to verify security with their open source ecosystem.
Sure, they have plenty of currencies, maybe too many. I wanted to change my DASH for STRATIS. They took my DASH but I never got the STRATIS.
Lost 1600 EUROS. Still waiting two weeks and no answer....

I’m totally new to all of this but I thought you could save any coins in an alternative wallet but the exchanges has a ridiculously high withdrawal minimum, is that pretty much standard?
I’m on Mercatox for my sins

I would recommend using a hardware wallet. My son and I are mining bitcoin and we use Keep Key wallets. Hardware wallets are safe and secure. I would stay away from online wallets completely as they can be hacked. Don't let people tell you they are hack proof because they are not. Anything can be hacked at any time, just takes someone with the time and skill.

I can recommend you invest in Ripples. Its price is not high so you can try with it. But all depends about in what you want to invest and how long

A) If you plan on spending the BTC or transferring it around I would highly recommend Samourai Wallet for more reasons then one including RBF (replace by fee) and Smart miner fee features.
B) If you are going to straight HODL a ledger nano S or Trezor hardware wallet
C) Just a quick wallet that takes a bunch of altcoins, looks nice and is pretty secure... EXODUS

Yes, Exodus is great to hold multiple ERC20 based tokens interface is quite nice and friendly. One thing though that I don't like is when I try to exchange one coins to another, you are going to lose a lot if you are going to use their exchange features, specially that they are using shapeshift.io if I'm not mistaken. For bitcoin, no questions that Electrum is the best wallet, though lately is has vulnerabilities, but as per Theymos sticky at the top of forum, it should be fix if you downloaded the last versions. Another best wallet for ERC20 based in MEW. But you need to be careful because theirs a lot of hackers scammers replicating it.
