The technology powering bitcoin could help improve Facebook in the future, Mark Zuckerberg has said.

As part of a commitment to help fix the site over 2018, its founder said that he would look into the use of new technology to stop it being quite so centralised.

One of those technologies is bitcoin, he said, in an ambitious post that suggested Mr Zuckerberg is taking to heart the claims that Facebook is broken.

In a long post on his own site, the Facebook founder said that he recognised that the problem with the internet is that it is becoming too centralised, and controlled by a few huge companies that include Facebook itself. That was in contrast to people's vision that the web could be the perfect way of distributing and decentralising power, he said.

"A lot of us got into technology because we believe it can be a decentralizing force that puts more power in people's hands. (The first four words of Facebook's mission have always been "give people the power".) Back in the 1990s and 2000s, most people believed technology would be a decentralizing force," he wrote in a long post.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Well I hope this move of Zuckerberg will materialize. Mind you, the idea should always be a win-win situation especially when you speak about multi-million-worth companies. Hence, as for me, we cannot really tell until it has taken place. Who knows, there is an "x" deal right behind the purpose. We should perhaps ask ourselves what good will it bring Facebook if it will eventually include Bitcoin in its platform and vice versa? Think about it. In this day and age, we should at all times be armed with a good sense of reasoning for us to know where we are heading. We cannot just be happy about something; we have to at least authenticate on the reason behind.

The news and the post by Mark Zuckerberg might indicate the potential upcoming tie ups . If Facebook really tends to adopt Bitcoin's technology it would be beneficial to both the peers . That would just turn out to be an another reason why Bitcoin should be encouraged by all .
This comes with a query that it would be interesting to know that how facebook implements bitcoin into it and what would be its purpose . The answer lies in the womb of future for now .

Taking into consideration that the direction should really be more of decentralization and less centralization so that we are returning a big share of the power to the people where it should belong, the possible partnership between Facebook and Bitcoin can be a big bomb that can shatter the competition in the cryptocurrency world in favor to latter. I am hoping that Mark would really be doing it more than just saying a lip service to his many critics and supporters. Bitcoin can be immensely benefited with this and Facebook can be writing its new era -- a time when it is entertaining the idea of decentralization.

I agree with iram1011. With Bitcoin potentially partnering with big and very well known companies is an opportunity for Bitcoin to establish its renown identity. Facebook is a platform used by many and the incorporation of Bitcoin would pave way to opportunities for both parties. Facebook can be an agent for learning the appropriate use of Bitcoin and can open the doors for mass adoption. This partnership would truly bring benefits to both parties.

Mark Zuckerberg said: The technology powering bitcoin, which mean blockchain, doesn't mean it will be bitcoin.
The mention of cryptocurrency is likely to be at least partly a reference to blockchain, the technology that powers new kinds of currency like bitcoin. That allows information – to be distributed across a range of computers, rather than centralized in one specific place.
Honestly, it's not so interesting as he might adopt blockchain technology to make Facebook not so centralized, but will be distributed such as "proof of work" of bitcoin technology.

The title of the article is misleading and its a clickbait and I believed that you got it on target. Mark Zuckerberg is talking about the technology behind bitcoin, which is Blockchain. That is where is he interested and not on bitcoin itself. You guys should learn how to read between the line. But I really like if Facebook did actually take advantage of this distributed ledger. Let's see though, I think Blockchain can really improved not just Facebook and other industries as well. Everyone should used it and replaced their legacy systems. I think its gonna be a private blockchain though, ease of maintainance and its not easily tampered with, if ever Mark decided to apply it to Facebook.

"bitcoin" could come to facebook is a lot different from "bitcoin technology" could come to facebook. and i have a feeling from the article that i read that he is specifically talking about the blockchain technology not bitcoin per se` and that is a different thing.
for all we know he is going to start a new ICO and create his own coin. FBCoin maybe! a centralized system of payments working in a centralized platform. even something like STEEM could be possible.

There is a FOMO brewing...

This sounds good, but I don't see how this can actually work, blockchain is about storing copies of the same ledger in a way that allows parties to have cryptographic proofs that the data wasn't modified after writing it, so multiple parties can trust each other. So, how exactly it would make Facebook decentralized? Are they going to put all their data on blockchain? This would be terribly inefficient. And what about about decentralization - with whom they are going to share this blockchain? Bitcoin works because people can run nodes and verify the blockchain by themselves, but it obviously can't work with Facebook or other company because of huge flows of data.

This sounds really interesting and intriguing. I think Slowly  all big names will try to adapt blockchain technology hence this is the future. We are still in 2nd generation crypto currencies. The more advance we go, it'll be adopted much more.

i didn't read his words as "facebook will add bitcoin" but that's possible. if it happens, i'm not sure that bitcoin will be the only currency added. given their massive network, grabbing market share in the payments space seems like a logical choice. i also wonder if facebook is considering rolling out a currency of their own.

i wouldn't read too much into it, though. this is a bit like "amazon is going to add bitcoin because X, Y and Z!" i've been hearing that since 2013. Tongue

i also took what he said as an admission that encrypted communications are the future. he knows that facebook needs to embrace emerging technologies to stay relevant.

I can imagine a change in Facebook where there is an option to create bitcoin wallet and store bitcoin there. It could be a good feature and they might add games and apps where bitcoin will be utilized.

This is a big thing that has reported in the first days of crypto in this year 2018 and if any partnership or related that facebook will plan in the future then it will absolutely make the coinmarkecap soaring and reaching trillions of money.
