Do you think we will see certain restrictions investing in ICOs for European based investors? I'm considering to go full time focusing on ICOs investments and it would be a shame if ICOs become banned. Thank you for sharing your opinion on this, much appreciated

I think regulation is good unless they implement some severe restrictions, regulation will not create any hurdle in the growth of the altcoins, but will provide confidence and streamline the crypto business.

Potentially ICOs could be banned. Unfortunately banning becomes a trend today, cause nobody wants to calm down people who loose their money.
But banning will create investment money outflow. Some countries may use such bans and benefit by bringing attractive regulations.
Cyprus was an offshore for a long period of time even in European Union.

It is very much needed, but I am afraid that whenever it comes it will be simply to ensure tax paying and avoid money laundering but not to ensure proper governance which is what I think is needed after taking part in a few ICOs.

Regulation is different in banning it,ICOs would be less scammy if theres regulating on these investments, people would be sure to their money if you ask me.

no the established authorities cant handle icos,

but what is more likely is that there will be verification and examination systems developed that investors will then trust and rely on, making it a defacto regulation,

u then have to fullfil those examination standards to get broad attention in the first place

regards

I guess I didn't properly describe myself. I didn't mean to say regulation would mean directly to ban ICOs, just wanted to ask if any sort of regulation is coming potentially ending up with ban.

Thank you for all the replies guys, are there any official announcements from authorities you are aware of? Because I couldn't find much which probably means all we have are conjectures only...

The BOE (Bank of England) head Mark Carney has stated recently that they wish to regulate not only ICO's but also impose a taxed system where the government will look to tax alts and bitcoin/ ethereum etc whilst in wallet.. This would obviously be good for making ICO's credible ... but also bad for holders as you wouldn't be able to strategically hold tokens and pay yourself in good tax terms in the future.  Shocked

I think it doesn't matter , icos under restrictions mean real project , why not ?Further more , China has banned every kind of icos, but ICO are still live in China .
Chinese are still joining any icos they like.

I don't think all over Europe, but it will be certain countries.

I think regulation is needed, but I believe banning them would be a mistake.

To have a full answer about this we would need to think where is Europe heading in general, that is, what direction is the European Union fiscal policy is going to travel in a few years. Europe has always been talking of harmonisation in fiscal matters and if that is the path, ICOs will be regulated across all EU.

You can do both. You can invest ICOs at your spare time , it won't take too much time , I am now doing like this .
I think it will not be banned, but some regulations for sure.

ICOs will become more regulated over time not only in Europe but across the entire globe with US taking the lead in introducing new regulations for this grey-area industry.

One example is the recent ban of crypto currency trading in South Korea. U can read it here. https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-southkorea-bitcoin/south-korea-plans-to-ban-cryptocurrency-trading-rattles-market-idUSKBN1F002A

However, regulations is not entirely bad since it makes it harder for scammers to organize ICO and disappear with the funds raised after that.

Maybe it can be banned or regulated in Europe too, because many countries are started to restrict the crypto currency usage in their countries so Europe also one of them. But regulating is better than banning it on their countries because ICOs is a great type of investment so it will help increase in their country people's economy.

But there is no official announcement yet so you are free to participate in the ICOs yet.

ICO might end up being regulated in Europe because of the vast acceptance of it by the Europeans.

Sooner or later, given the existence of certain risks for investors, the ICO should and will be monitored in Europe. European states are already concerned about the presence of these risks and are looking for a way out of this situation. And there can be only one way out - partial regulation of the issue of initial coins. Nothing wrong with this I do not see. It is important only that such regulation is not excessive and does not interfere with the ICO.
