On the list of things that never happened today...I mean I wish that occurs but it is supremely unlikely given all the public stances on bitcoin lately nobody wants to commit political suicide.

A one-issue political party that most people will eithr look at with envy or enimosity?
that's going to go far.

World politics need a LOT of work, there are plenty of problems, approaching them with the mere goal of "bitcoin backing" is absurd. Bitcoin isn't the panacea of worlds.
You'd be better off spending effort in growing within a party you believe in, and trying to bring your interests in bitcoin to the center of some discussion.

This would not be a 1 issue party.

Lets say a party is formed in the US.

At the core would be a reform of foreign policy, monetary policy, and drug policy.

Bitcoin wouldn't replace the monetary system, but would be part of the reform of monetary policy.

This party could be anonymously funded with crypto.

Thoughts?

It would have to happen all over the world. Patia can do nothing in one country. The title must be global ...

The money that is within Crypto and made here is nothing compared to the amount that is made by the big banks, big pharma, big oil, and so on and so forth. So while it does sound like a good idea, the people that we were to elect would just take the biggest cash options from other people and then just have to serve them -- this would be the big banks and everyone else I listed before.

So yeah, cool and all but not going to come to fruition.

Even if not, it would certainly be perceived that way.  Just as the US Green Party can often be considered to focus too much on a single problem, this group would be too.

If it wasn't perceived that way, it would be very divisive among crypto supporters as they would disagree with some of the party's other policies.  Even if the party focused on common stances that crypto users have (such as libertarianism) it would certainly not have a very wide appeal.

It would make much more sense to just support crypto use within the existing two-party system, at least if you're American.

You might be surprised. Personally, I'm not enamored with the idea since I don't see eye-to-eye with most bitcoiners, politically and socially. But one thing I've learned watching the political system in the US is that raw campaign expenditures are much more important than any other factor in deciding winners. In 9/10 cases (or more), the candidate that raises the most money wins, and the mere appearance of money in the coffers causes opponents to drop out.

If Bitcoin ends up going to $1MM, there will be a lot of pro-crypto folks sitting on unprecedented profits. I wouldn't underestimate their capability to influence politics on that basis alone.

You are right, I don't see "crypto party" getting any notable success in any country, I think we should instead getting in contact with parties that support information technologies like pirate parties, internet parties, technocratic parties, etc. as well as libertarian and individualistic parties that support self-determination and freedom of individuals to cooperate without interference from the government. I hope the younger generation would give a chance to such parties rather than ignoring elections or following decade and age old political paradigms that are causing so much problems in the world.

If I were someone who didn't know about crypto, I would most likely think a party like this has a (not so) hidden agenda. I mean, it's for crypto, backed by crypto. It would be easy to assume that the entire party is being paid off by people with crypto stakes. I wouldn't be against a political party that is pro crypto, but having their entire identity based around that is simply not a good idea.

Politics must be people first, and country first. Unless we're able to establish that crypto is absolute good that brings nothing but good things to everyone involved, then this will never work. Parties must be based on an idea, not the vehicle that will be used for it.

The main purpose of any political party is to win an election and for you to register a political party it means you have to comply to certain rules and regulations of the electoral body because they are the ones that would decide in their own wisdom whether you are fit to register or not. Even though the constitution guarantee Freedom of Association, this right is not absolute because you also have to disclose your source of funding which in this case bitcoin, the same bitcoin that the government of the day is trying as much as possible to stop its influence with the valid negativity that surrounds its existence, I doubt if the registration will fall through.

On the other hand, rather than facing such complexity political system, why don't we go the route of forming a lobby group that would be financed with crypto and ensure that laws and policies are directed to favor bitcoin with that, we can the move up from there.

At the core of the bitcoin movement is a burning desire to replace the current monetary system that perpuates this "state" that humanity is trapped in of scarcity and war, with one that can truly produce peace and overwhelming abundance.

What has not been discussed is a tangible plan of how this transition would happen, and what exactly crypto and bitcoins role would be in this transition, and future world.

What if a new political party was started to implement this, knowing that the monetary system is at the heart of a significant number of humanity's current problems.

Narrowing down the major issues to 3, monetary policy, foreign policy, and drug policy, would unite several existing movements that already have fairly uniform views on these issues, at least in the aspect of needing to be reformed and their level of importance.

Also, tackling these issues would partially or fully solve many other major issues in the process.

Having this movement permanently back bitcoin and crypto would guarantee a significant portion of the bitcoin and crypto owners to be incentivized to donate to it, as permanently backing them would inevtiably drive up their price.

Given the market caps that have been reached, it is finally possible to compete in terms of dollars the cost of elections that the current power structures spend. Several billion dollars would fund running for all executive and legislative seats in the United States. Several billion dollars directed towards truth will always be more valuable then several billion dollars of lies and deceit.

All of the details of how this would be implemented could all be figured out as the movement evolves. What is crucial is to start spreading it virally now so that it has enough momentum to divert humanity in the right direction when the next crash occurs. The existing power structures that have been operating for thousands of years under the mindset of self preservation as opposed to humanity's evolution, are much more prepared for when the next crash occurs to preserve their interests at the detriment of all of humanity, and keep the system of crashing, and benefiting running as it always has. With the current fervor of bitcoin and crypto, the time is now to inject into the zeitghesit the realistic possibility of a brand new party/political system/peace/overwhelming abundance as a real possibility driven for and by crypto.

Hi, today exactly this idea crossed my mind, google it and found this thread. Following it now to see if it goes somewhere.

I haven't given to much though to it, but it seems to me that we are approaching the time when this might start to have sense. Initially I don't think that such a party would win any election, but it would start a conversation and use the current system against itself. Other approach that makes sense is to fund existing politicians that wish to legalize crypto in any country.

Imagine for example a fund for this, managed by a smart contract that allows any politician to request money from the fund with a concrete proposal, and after approval by the funds (DAO) stakeholders, the funds can be gradually released each time a milestone in the proposed road-map is reached.

Cheers!
