The Bitcoin transaction fee was controversial in the Pitcairn community, and reached its peak in 2017. But with the dawn of a new year, Pitcairn began its decline in network fees due to the increased adoption of the Segwit update.

After the end of the last quarter of 2017, transaction fees on the Bitcoin network began to decline recently. The Bitcoinfees.info site indicates an average fee of $ 15.79

Segwit2 implemented? No, it doesn't seem to be because of the drop in fees.I didn't see the news

I feel like the fees are dropping because not as many people are trying to sell. When the price started dropping, people started getting nervous and wanted to sell their coins. This clogged the network, so people's transactions started taking longer to confirm, and the fees skyrocketed. I think with proper implementation of a lightning network, we'll never really have to worry about this issue again. Lower fees will come naturally as will super fast transaction speeds. I'm looking forward to seeing where this technology goes in 2018.

This area is up for grabs! PM me if you're interested.

Wow, BTC made it to Pitcairn.
And the community there is in an uproar.

For those of you that don't know, Pitcairn is a huge metropolis on the largest island in the world and their economy can be compared to that of Singapore.
With 50 millions inhabitants, a surface of 47 000 km2 and a GDP of 217 000 billions $ , Pitcairn will have a say in this bitcoin controversy.

Still quite high. And it is going to increase once millions of new users start using Bitcoins. Gone are the days when we used to pay $0.10 for our transactions. But $16 for a single transaction? Don't you think that it is a bit too much? Imagine going to the McDonald's and paying for your $2 burger in Bitcoins. But it is still far better than the $120 fee which we had a few days back.

$15 is not low. I haven't been keeping track of the fees because I don't want to be part of the backlog, but if that's considered getting better, then it doesn't look like I'll be transacting for a while.

It's true that more people are pushing for Segwit to help alleviate the problem, but the fact of the matter is, unless the biggest exchanges start using Segwit, I'm guessing we can't make much of a difference. Majority of the transactions apparently come from these exchanges, and since the users have little to no say for the fees, it just gets driven up. Please pressure your exchanges to start using Segwit.

Pitcairn or Bitcoin? Anyway, yest there is a a significant drop in the transaction fees though it is still so far from the ideal one and we should demand for more less fees. having a high fee is not what Bitcoin should be and it is quite detrimental to the future growth of Bitcoin especially as a currency -- this is a major factor why many are already questioning the value and viability of Bitcoin and the best way to stop these critics and naysayers is if we will have Bitcoin dramatically reduced its fees and transaction time.
