I'm American but outside the US at the moment.  I have a coinbase account that i created a while back and sent in documents and got verified.  However i had 2FA on it and no longer use that phone anymore.  I sent an email to coinbase on this and mentioned how i get an error but they don't seem to respond back or when they do, they don't seem to be helpful.

Gemini i cannot get verified because they seem to require a US cell number.  I have a us google voice number but according to them, that isn't allowed to get verified.  So I cannot even get verified on gemini.  Coinbase and gemini are the 2 sites that i read are the best ones to cash out real money to bank account.

Can someone tell me what are my other options besides coinbase/gdax and gemini if i want to convert my bitcoin into real cash to my bank account?  These are the 2 easiest ways that i heard was use coinbase or gemini but i cannot get verified on gemini... and with coinbase, they cannot even reset my 2FA because of a verification error.  I was told i would then upload my verification documents again but i cannot do this due to that verification error message.  Does kraken or bitstamp allow this?  Basically i want a way to cashout btc into real money to bank account whether its bank wire or ACH transfer etc.  A while back i used circle to do it and i thought it was great but they no longer allow it anymore.

First, which 2FA did you use? It's possible to recover the account for some of them. Check out this article: https://lifehacker.com/what-do-i-do-if-i-use-two-factor-authentication-and-los-1668727532

Second, There are over 10 exchanges I'm finding that deal in the United States. Here's a list of such exchanges: https://lifehacker.com/what-do-i-do-if-i-use-two-factor-authentication-and-los-1668727532

Let us know how this process goes for you, it'll help someone down the road. Thank you!

I used google authenticator on my old phone.  I did not write down my 2FA secret key for coinbase.  The old phone no longer works at all.

Im using a new phone and i like to use 2FA on it but the issue is well i have to reset the old iphone 2FA or remove it etc.  But coinbase is not helpful because i keep getting error message verification.

Which are the exchanges in the US that actually allows you to cashout bitcoin into real money into bank account?  I only know about coinbase and gemini.

Google authenticator is recoverable.

Here's a write up, from Google, on how to recover your 2FA account: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/BCnR5Y-dlaQ;context-place=topicsearchin/gmail/category$3Aother-mobile-device-please-specify%7Csort:relevance%7Cspell:false

Below is the link I first provided, i believe it will answer the question you pose above.

Have you tried the local traders on Localbitcoin in the area you relocated too? This might not be the safest option, but if you do this correctly, it might be a option for you. I did this, when I still had to travel to Africa for work. <You build a trust relationship with small trades at a time>

Or, look for a local Bitcoin exchange. ^smile^

Maybe you could try BitPanda i am not sure if they support to USD or American accounts but i know that for EUR and GBP you can cash out, or as other people have suggested try localbitcoins.com to try and find a buyer locally to you wherever you are of course this has some risks which other options may not but its an option.

This link does not provide the list of exchange sites that answers Ops question its the same as the one on the problem with 2FA authentication. Maybe you check again to confirm. The link is really helpful though because I have read quite a lot of people having issues with 2FA authentication when they change devices but it would be more straight forward if it had been on step by step basis.

My suggestion, since you are currently out of the US, why don't you find a way to convert in you current country because you never can tell, it might be more relaxed than the US then you convert to USD which you can use in the US pending the time you are able to resolve this issue.

No way outside the U.S... 2FA Security fucked up everything, man!
Unless if you have someone back in the U.S who can have access to your phone and help by sending you the 2FA codes.

You can try selling it peer to peer to someone and just make a payment method of banks only if you cant find a way to cash it out using a site like coinbase or such things

So i was going to use gemini.  They told me i need an actual sms us number in order to get verified.  They tell me a google voice number which i receive text with no issue would not work.  Not only that, they told me i need that number everytime i log in.  Is that true or false gemini users?  I said could i borrow someones cell phone number since i only need to receive this text once since afterwards, im sending in my verification documents, they said no thats not allowed due to privacy reasons.  I said okay so could i buy a cell number and use it but then dont use it anymore?  They said no because you always need an active cell number if you want to log in.  Can someone here confirm this is true or not?  Because that makes zero sense.

Bitstamp serves Americans, but I've seen numerous complaints recently about frozen/closed accounts and invasive KYC measures. I probably wouldn't use them to cash out bitcoins.

There are a few other options besides Coinbase and Gemini. Kraken is probably the next most popular option, and bitFlyer has a licensed US exchange now too. Another option is itBit, operated by Paxos. Bittrex also has a USD market now and supports USD withdrawals, but if you don't have an account yet you may need to submit a request to have deposit/withdraw capabilities added to your account.

Why didn't you try p2p method. It could have saved you from going through these hassles! If you hold your bitcoins in a wallet other than coinbase, try localbitcoins or paxful. If you are not familiar with p2p, then start with a small amount and try to execute trade with a highly rated trader. That's the best way to convert bitcoins to fiat so far!

Its been almost 2 years since you created this thread? You weren't back in the USA in that time?

The issue here is that since you want to make a new account while overseas will set off red flags with most exchanges. Because its strange for someone to create an account with an identity that doesn't match the origins of where the IP address is from. This is no different than logging into your bank account from a foreign international IP and trying to make a transfer, most likely your account would get flagged.

Like everyone suggested here before, unless you can get a bank account in your current country then try a bitcoin ATM or a peer to peer meet like localbitcoins.

Well, the problem comes in with the 2FA and the mobile telephone that he links to the 2FA. He can go back to America and then link a local mobile number with 2FA, but the exchange might pick up that he is using his account from a IP that are not in the US and then they might flag his account.

I get a notification from my local exchange when I login from another computer with a new IP address, so they do monitor this kind of activity. He might have to use a VPN service, but if they detect that, they might block his account again.  Roll Eyes
