It is not ideal to keep all your portfolio on an exchange but if you are looking to trade them often then it is ok, if you are holding for long term then i recommend to store in your personal wallet or offline wallets.

If you're trading then you don't have a lot of choice, if your portfolio begins to grow you can store it in various exchanges to trade with. If you're not trading then you can remove it to a wallet of your choosing. Personally I have lots of funds on exchanges and worrying about them being hacked isn't the forefront of my worries.

It is not recommended to keep your coins in exchanges for long term. Keep those you are trading daily and send the rest to a safe wallet which you control the private keys. It is good to buy a hardware wallet if it support majority of your coins.

It has some pros but even more cons in my opinion. I would say that with bittrex being s registered company the risk of them running away with coins isn't that much of a concern (athough still a possibility). Exchanges have been irresponsible with handling customer funds in many cases and recovery can be an extremely long process like with mtgox or seemingly impossible like with cryptsy. Better keep the alts on your own, take advantage of their "bee your own bank" ideals and care about security on your own.

think about this: right now your coins worth 8k$ in few month, if your are lucky or if you have made the right choices, your coins will worth, i don't know... 30k? 50k? choose well where to store it. And it's not about bittrex

Not a good idea,if thats your whole portfolio, exchange isnt a wallet to store your holdings but if you are planning to trade all of it yes you can do it.

I would not prefer to store my coins in any exchange. Theoretically it is not advisable. In case something happens to this exchange like someone hacks them or they bankrupt, you are done. You better store your coins in your own wallet with a security product like ledger.

There were times I hodl coins that worth more than 80k in Bittrex, it was a secure exchange. But now it has a risk, like every other exchange website. They may be hacked in the future, if you don't actively trade your coins I suggest you to withdraw to your own wallet.

While this exchange seem perfectly OK, it does not matter if it is 8k or 80k, is never free from possible problems. Just keep you coins in a variety of wallets, cold, hot, harware, exchanges... That should free you from a large loss.

Very true! Look at what happened with Etherdelta two weeks ago.... Many people lost their money, so never keep on exchange your portfolio, only the strict minimum you need for trading.

You might consider an Exodus wallet, which resides on your computer. Very easy to use and understand, with an exchange built in (Shape Shift) Use that to exchange crypto and send to a more secure wallet like Trezor or Ledger. I use it all the time with buys, sells, exchanges, and transfers. Easily see where your portfolio is at wallet by wallet or total portfolio any time you're at your computer. Very handy tool. (and free)

$8k worth on exchange i think it is better than you cash out some and buy new computer, and use it only to save your coins and don't do anything to it. in case you only want to save them instead or trading

If you are day trading then there is no choice but to leave your funds in the exchange because it will be costly to constantly transferring them from wallet to exchange and vice versa. But if you are an investor and holding your coins for long term, I suggest transfer them to a safe wallet for safe keeping. The wallet should be under your control meaning you own the private key. Bittrex can be trusted but you still do not own the private key of the wallets. If anything happens like bittex got hacked or anything, it will be a total lost.
