Anyone active on steem? What are your general experiences?
For example, how difficult is it to write something that gains up votes?
Do you read a lot of interesting articles? Or a lot of crap?
How much do you earn on a monthly basis in usd?

I like steem.  However, I'm new with it.  I actually created my first post recently as I have been trying to learn Bitshares. I'd like to try to get involved more, but I don't have a ton of time between family and work if you know what I mean. It looks like some people make fairly good money on there and I have read many awesome posts.  A user who is involved and definitely makes money is bluerocktalk who is pretty cool and is trying to learn and teach about BitShares and Steemit.   https://steemit.com/@bluerocktalk

I don't post, but I read quite a lot. There are many posts like a pic and "wow, bitcoin is now 15k dollars!" or simply links. But there are several guys that write interesting stuff. I think you can become one of them if you really put your effort in it Wink A single post can earn up to $500, I think.

What are your general experiences? Pretty much just like other reading platforms like Medium, just with better monetization.

how difficult is it to write something that gains up votes You'd have to make articles that gets people interested, and that makes sense of course. Also, proper english is important. I don't personally post on Steem, so I can't comment on how difficult it is.

Do you read a lot of interesting articles? Or a lot of crap? A good number of articles, I filter up to the hot articles so I pretty much skip the BS.

How much do you earn on a monthly basis in usd? Only a reader, not a poster.

If you can write you can comment and upvote post to share in the profit of the writer. But if you put in much effort you can earn much from it.

Experiences have been good. Of course there can be a bit of unimportant, or simply boring publications.. but the majority i find very good! i think for the first of its kind, its a fantastic platform, whilst improving all around.

if you write decent content, you can gain upvotes quite quickly.. or simply share it on your twitter feeds, fb, etc. to gain more exposure.. generally the public like good knowledgeable articles, so i tend to see that those pieces to gain a lot of upvotes.

definitely worth a shot if you are interested in writing good content.. i find medium better for more longer, in debt articles whereas steemit provides more short content.

both great!

Thanks for sharing your experience of Steem.
This is a good topic and meaning.
It is very useful for new people like me.
But it seems that topic does not have many members involved, hope to have more comments to share more.
I learned a lot from you.
Thanks a lot!

Don't limit yourself and look at just the profit what you could earn out from steemit. I think that it is much more better to focus on your content to be original and to simply outpreform others. Profit will raise slowly when you get attention from people. Anyway you can simply go through first page there and see that some people are getting 500$+ per post and if you look their posts and that they post frequently, you can also check out their wallets. It will take effort to start and earn like some best people do outhere. But don't discourage when yo ustart and when you get slow attention, be patient, start small and bring good quality content. Honestly I read most voted posts mostly since thats what community is telling me that they are not crap and so far my experience as a reader are great there.

Thanks for all your replies so far!

I understand that I should not only go there for the profits. It actually also draw my attention because quite some people say you can read interesting posts about crypto currency.
About the profits, I think the majority of people doesn't earn anything. either because they only read or they post lousy content. So I'm aware of the fact that I might also become part of the majority.

At this moment there are still a few things I don't understand about the way the Steem system works. Atm I have the following questions:
1. Who's paying? I mean there is a bunch of users that earns tokens for writing content. But if someone earns $1.000, there is also someone that has to pay that amount.
2. What happens when the maximum number of Steem is in circulation?
3. To earn money user 1 could upvote the post of user 2 and vice versa. If you do that with 100+ users they could all earn some money, correct?
(In relation to question 3, I know that if only users with very less Steem power do these upvotes, it won't have much impact. But the basic idea could work)
