BitcoinAverage is the longest running Bitcoin Price Index. Publicly launched as an open source project in August 2013 with a goal of providing the community with an accurate bitcoin price. Nearly 3 years later we are the most widely used source of bitcoin price data, supplying some of the industry's leading apps and services.
BitcoinAverage's Bitcoin Global Price Index (GBX) is an average price using over 50 different exchanges weighted using trading volume, activity, liquidity and other factors.

Yup, well done. Bitcoinaverage has been my go-to site for a week now.
Would be even better if it included a chart though..

Hi, thanks for the comment. There are lots of small things we want to do/achieve first, things like charts are definitely something we will be looking at in the future!

Is the average price weighted to the volume traded?
For instance, if Mt. Gox sells BTC for 105 and they trade 40% of the sales, and Bitstamp sells BTC for 90 with 60% of sales, is the "average" closer to 90 then 105?
Never mind, I should have read the OP more...

Until we post this in "Project Development", we thought a thread may as well be created in this section.
If there are any exchanges or platforms you think we should be including please contact us also, localbitcoins should hopefully be added within a week or so.
to be honest, I think Mt Gox should be deleted. the value is worth nothing, for the time being.

to be honest, I think Mt Gox should be deleted. the value is worth nothing, for the time being. This has been suggested by a few people. We think the best option is to allow individual users of the API to opt out of including a certain exchange at their discretion, so this is on our to-do list!

Cool service, Inputs.io uses this (fallback to whatisthebitcoinprice and then fallback to MtGox).
With localbitcoins you should do some sanity checking - it was reporting an ask of a few million EUR per BTC two days ago.

Please get that icbit price out of the average. i want to use your site for pricing but cant if you are going to have an average that is so far way from the average between mt gox and bitstamp.
If you add local bitcoin ask prices please keep it separate.

The data is weighted, icbit 0.00% 0.18 This will not influence the price you use at all as its less than a quarter of a bitcoin, does that help ? I think the above also covers your comment regarding localbitcoins, their volume is currently 0.51%
