Today I got a mail from Bitcointalk that I received a PM from a newbie member (twicticciade). When I checked in my Bitcointalk messages, there was no such message. Also, when I clicked the link in mail to reply, it says that PM doesn't exist.
Note: I wasn't able to see the message as body of message isn't there in Email.

What could be the possible reason for this ?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

What was the content of the message (I believe it tells you in the email)? However, it was very likely a spam message by a bot and I believe some of those are being pruned after the account is banned so maybe that's why.

As a security precaution, the body of the message is excluded from the email notification if the message is sent from a newbie account.  It helps prevent cases of identity theft and people trying to impersonate more senior forum members for the purposes of fraud.  I've had at least three email notifications in the past about a private message and then there's nothing in my forum inbox when I check here.  They were probably sent en-masse to multiple accounts and easily flagged as suspicious, so I've always assumed they were deleted by the admins due to malicious content and that I wasn't missing anything important.  On occasions when they aren't deleted, the private message on the forum will also be accompanied by some bold red text stating that the message is sent from a new account and that they shouldn't be confused with any other forum members with a similar name.

In theory, there should be less abuse of it going forward with the new PM limits imposed last month.

Maybe my comment is a little bit basic but is the email that you received really from bitcointalk.org? I mean maybe it is a phishing attempt with a similar text and a close looking email?
If it is from bitcointalk.org then I think like DooMAD said that it was deleted by staff.

Email was from noreply@bitcointalk.org and it linked to original Bitcointalk only.

That means that it was a spam PM that got wiped before you read it.

Won't Bitcointalk automatically prevent sending of spam (before it is sent)?
A newbie user will only be allowed to send some x PMs per y period. If he exceeds this limit, he will be given an error.

Is my understanding correct? When does that 'wiping of spam' comes into play?

For large spam campaigns, I retroactively wipe the spam PMs once they are discovered.

Like mentioned above by the owner it probably got detected or reported already by a member and then removed by a staff member. The account in question that is and whatever messages they left.

I came to ask the same question. I also got an email saying ive been sent a private message but when i checked my inbox there was no message. I thought it must have been some sort of really good phishing email because all the links looked like legit bitcointalk links.
