Is there any difference in splitting up the load between 2 miners versus everything being done by 1? My hash rate seems to be the same either way but I'm curious if there are any other advantages to splitting up the threads.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

I figured as much. The possible advantages I refer to, however, would be along the lines of mining for multiple pools, having multiple miners therefore not being left completely out of commission in the event one goes down, etc.
