Please help me and my friend

Long ago, when bitcoins weren't priced anywhere near where they are now, I sent my friend some to an address he provided. He promptly forgot all about them. Now that they're worth more, he wants to know how to retrieve them. He doesn't remember where or how he got the bitcoin address, but I do know where I sent them and where they are now.

They are parked in this address, along with 10000 other bitcoins. Does anyone know who controls this block, and where my friend can reclaim them? I hope it isn't mywallet, which I think was popular at the time. Thanks for your help.

I would say for 10,000 bitcoins he should try to remember harder.

Perhaps you could try some "enhanced" interrogation techniques on him to help him remember?

My thoughts exactly. He just remembered these? Did it slip his mind once they hit $20 or maybe $250?

You need to find the private key for that address. Where that key is located depends on where he generated that address. If he generated the address from his PC using the QT application he will need to find the wallet.dat file. If it was on a website he will need the username and password for his online wallet.  Good luck!

ps-if you happen to find the key try not to convert all those bitcoins to fiat at one time.  It will drive the price down and you won't be able to realize their full value.

Thanks for your comments, but you are not understanding the situation. I sent my friend 1.5 bitcoin to an address he provided to me, and they were almost immediately sucked into another address that now currently holds over 10000. There were transactions sent to that address as recently as last month. I'm asking if anyone knows who controls that address, which is likely being kept in cold storage by some online wallet provider. I'm looking for that provider. Thanks again.

What do you mean sucked away? Was he the victim of a computer virus?
I guess one thing you can do is periodically do a google search of that address and see if the owner shows up (I would also search TOR) .  Interestingly it shows up in a list of lost accounts here:

Meaning that I believe the web wallet operator transferred a large number of smaller deposits into a large 10k block and put them in cold storage or something.
