I have been thinking:

40% Bitcoin
40% Etherium
20% Monero

Thought?

I'd suggest you to invest in this way:
50% ETH
20% ADA or NEM
20% LTC
and 10% - different alts from the top 100 such as TRX, EOS, QTUM and etc. (not more than 3-5 coins).

3. 20% in LTC
4. The rest spend it on more speculative coins example ADA, Monero, ZCash, Iota etc...

If you want to be safe I like your breakdown.

However I would probably squeeze 10% to gamble a bit into smaller cap coins with great projects. You can make a lot of $ off of these where as the safe ones not so much.

Personally, I see more gains in ETH than BTC this year. I'd go 60% ETH, 30% BTC and 10% Monero.

Follow the above advice, but, in addition, don't invest more than a limited propotion of your overall assets in Blockchain/Cryptos. Even if you diversify your investment across cryptocurrencies, were there a drop in the market, all would correlate and this diversification would not save you. In time of crisis, history has shown that correlation become much higher.

As far as safe goes that's about as safe as it gets, if she wants modest returns but with less risk then you've got it about right. Monero is debatable and everyone could include another coin there but the more important fact is having the major 2 and the weight of the investment in those two.

I think your bitcoin and ethereum decisions are maybe the safest decisions. Also you can think about ripple or litecoin with monero. Good luck!

you have an excellent portfolio! perhaps, I would add a few altcoins in your portfolio. Think and read about the waves, stratis, neo. Maybe you will like something from this and you will add it to your portfolio.

Your portfolio picks are already good and what one could consider "blue chip stocks" of the crypto world. Are you looking for more options? If so, then instead maybe consider also zcash. It's price value seems to be steadily rising with no major pumps and dumps.

Just a note if you are holding long term, make sure you at least get a hardware wallet to keep your port safe.

I think your girlfriend is smart girl. She knows what the best for you and for her. By investing in that kind of cryptocurrency you will be more safe. I dont say 100% safe but at least reduce the risk.
