There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I am mining as well it seems as I have an available balance of 90 but my locked balance has been 0 for a while. Now I'm not sure if that's normal but I'm pretty sure that before those tokens where mined they were locked. So I have set set_log to 3, and the connection keeps timing out. I have attached a picture any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Locked coins are simply coins that have been recently mined/transferred but have not matured. Once a certain number of blocks have passed those coins will become unlocked and will appear in your available balance. Until then you can't perform any transactions with them.

The timeouts are normal, the log is simply displaying when you connect/disconnect to peers.

Can a cold offline wallet be used like with NEM?
Im not familiar with the using of XEM, so, of what you may fully mean I may not be entirely certain, but-
Yes - you can backup a wallet file to store offline and create another wallet for online/network use.
We all need to get used to backing up (2-3x) and encrypting ALL wallets. For wallets are but files in folders, and the money but data.  Lips sealed

Yes, to kill White Walkers Grin

 Smiley     ^ Yes!!!!   Indeed!

And though, as Season 7 finished with ~12million U.S. viewers-  plus, it being the digital age, and all...   I am also quite certain we as such an already strong fan community can find real world uses for a Game of Thrones digital currency -  {not to mention encrypted & anonymous transactions}

    AND

{Dragonglass} kills white walkers.

Also, a raven came some time ago from an HBO... for you.

The only file that you need to backup is the .wallet file (It will have the name you gave your wallet before the '.')

I've taken it upon myself to compile the daemon and simplewallet files for both Windows (64 bit):

and Ubuntu 16.04.3 (64 bit):

I hope this gets more people involved because I am finding too many blocks by myself  Wink

not sure where a scam is in block rewards.
I never was one for popular things.. rather, I value strong community of like minded individuals.
Welcome to the future of cryptocurrency.
Not the tech bubble wet dream of ideas built on fantasy logic & advertising campaigns.

The real one.

Welcome.

edit: (well.. we may add a little bit of fantasy.....but its closer to reality than you might think)

On the heels of HBO’s recent confirmation that Game of Thrones won’t return for its final season until 2019, the network’s top programming boss is explaining the reason for the extra-long wait.

Casey Bloys told EW that — as fans have suspected — showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss wanted the extra time to craft the strongest final six episodes possible.

“Here’s what I’ll tell you: They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger — big battle scenes, big special effects,” Bloys said. “These things take time. Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They’re perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with."
