Thanks to the people who moved to segwit. Around 50 percent of the campaign is now segwit. You have 2 more weeks to get segwit addresses.

New enrollments will be announced in 1 hr

Just a couple of questions :

1. People are saying not to use P2SH-P2WPKH addresses (the ones that start with 3) but to use bech32 native Segwit addresses starting bc1.

2. You can't sign messages with Segwit addresses that was created with Green Address or Greenbits because they are multisig addresses? {This might create problems in the future, when you need to sign a message}

3. People cannot check bech32 addresses over blockchain.info's explorer, they will have to switch to btc.com explorer. {Some people might use Blockchain.info and think that they were not paid, which would lead to frustration for campaign managers.}

4. Most common exchanges did not implement SegWit. {cashout problems?}

So what do we use? P2SH-P2WPKH addresses ? / bech32 addresses / Multisig addresses?

I think someone should provide a manual or guide to newbies to create the appropriate SegWit addresses to reduce frustration

and confusion and possibly confrontation, if something might go wrong in the future.  Wink

I completely agree with you, and I also have a few questions, now that I was about to upgrade to a segwit address myself. It seems that electrum, that is the wallet I use, uses native segwit address (the bech32). From what I've read this is the best solution, since it's more efficient in memory use, but by using these addresses you will not be able to receive bitcoin from a normal address, and right now, they seem to be the only wallet actually using the native format (ledger and trezor for example, are using the P2SH-P2WPKH addresses).

I'm not sure if this is true or not, since I haven't tested yet, but this makes the decision to upgrade to segwit "harder". We normally keep going from one campaign to the other, and a lot of users on this one, will upgrade to segwit, so we should be aware that if we choose to use the bech32 format, we might not be able to use those address if we join another campaign that doesn't pay using segwit.

Anyone has any information on this?

Edit: aTriz I will delete this post if you want to, since it's not directed related to the campaign. But since most of the users here will upgrade to segwit, I though this would be a good place to "collect some information" about this matter.

Hmhm, I don't really see a question here.

2. You can't sign messages with Segwit addresses that was created with Green Address or Greenbits because they are multisig addresses? {This might create problems in the future, when you need to sign a message}
This might be an issue, especially if the user has changed email/password and it might look like a hacked account. This is why I would recommend using a ledger or a bech32 address (which you can sign messages with)

3. People cannot check bech32 addresses over blockchain.info's explorer, they will have to switch to btc.com explorer. {Some people might use Blockchain.info and think that they were not paid, which would lead to frustration for campaign managers.}
Not sure if this will an issue, people can just open their wallets and see an incoming transaction.

4. Most common exchanges did not implement SegWit. {cashout problems?}
Maybe. Not sure what to do with this.

So what do we use? P2SH-P2WPKH addresses ? / bech32 addresses / Multisig addresses?
Any of them is fine, but bech32 address and ledger wallets are recommended. Mostly for signing messages.

Hello aTriz, I will rank to Hero member on next Tuesday. How do things normally work with you?
Should I inform you when the change happens, and then you will update the info on the spreadsheet if a spot is available?

I will also change to a segwit address, I just need to update my wallet, I should do it during this weekend and in time for next payment.
Sorry didn't see this post, I'll upgrade you if there are available slots (which is looking like it)
