Author Topic: best 240v PDU for 30amp Breaker.  (Read 229 times)

looking online and I see multiple brands but I haven't seen much talk online in the forums about powering there miners.

I am in the completion stages of having power installed in the backyard shed. I have a 150amp subpanel ran from the house just trying to run wires and getting final things done. I will have 3 30AMP 240v plugs for the miners to run off of.

What would be the best PDU (opinion based I know, give me your reason) to run the miners on each 240 outlet we will have. we are starting off with 6 mining rigs and 1 test rig. they are all Modded and mad to conserve power but will still be dual mining.

As stated, I just want opinions on the 240v to multiple 120v outlet PDUs out there.

Thanks for your opinions.

If it helps, I would like something I can remotely turn off and on individual miners incase of a hard reset needed to be done.

You want the miners to run off of 240V, so you need to make sure that you have 3 x 30A 240V breakers installed in the panel. Make sure you get them wired to a LP-30R as seen below.



Then, you need to have the PDUs to be 240V as well, not 120V as you mentioned to match the NEMA LP-30R receptacle. I have these because I like to see the amperage (as rigs can vary, and you want to distribute the load evenly), and are reasonably priced. You dont need the metered feature, but it is nice.

I'm also interested into this and found the APC AP7922 to be interesting. This is the old version, but I think it should be OK, too. If you're from Europe, in NL is a 2nd hand serverparts reseller having them cheap, PM me if you want to know.

I was going to shoot you a message about that. but got caught up at work with something just now. I will be having 3 240v outlets installed just as you said and they will be on dedicated 30 amp breakers each. Its hard for me to talk electrical since that's not my thing. I am honestly copying a ton off of your build just not as large.

shed is already built, and once its finished being wired, I will be adding insulation and so on. can you shoot me a PM with a email I could send pics to you cause I cant post them on the forum as easily if you wanna see the progress...

This diagram is grossly incorrect.  "system ground" (which is totally the wrong title, its called earth ground) is NOT the same as neutral.  You should NEVER have current flowing through ground (unless there is a ground fault in the load which is what it is for) so you sure the hell wouldnt attach a ground wire directly to a 240v 3 pole outlet.  You do on a 4 pole outlet, thats what the 4th terminal for.  The picture shows the G terminal incorrectly marked. It should be a W.  A L6-30 Outlet doesnt even have a ground wire attached.  Ground is accomplished back at the main disconnect device where the neutral and ground are jumpered.  You dont get the 4th terminal until you get into the 50amp outlets typically in modern souckets/plugs. (NEC rules).  If you have a 3 terminal 50 amps plug/socket, it is obsolete even though it may be new in the box.  Electrical safety rules are there to protect all of us and by default the equipment we attach.

Its 240vac in the U.S. and has been for many decades.  Find a "great deal" on NOS 220vac plugs/outlets and they will burn up eventually.
