Spend $164 after rebate and get full warranty & a newer series card, same hash rate.

Of course it's not in stock almost anywhere because it's a 2½ year old series card.

I'm normally very vocal against scalping.

But it's true the Sapphire 5850 is not available anymore in stores.  What's the fair value for it? Whatever people are willing to pay, I guess.

But "fair value" does not always mean "a good deal".

The fair market value of the i7 2.93 GHz is "$289.99" on NewEgg.com today, but you'd be stupid to buy one. You can get a Sandy Bridge chip (runs faster, cheaper, cooler) for $10 more.

So there's "in line with market value" and then there's "a wise purchase".

While $175-$200 is what these cards are going for, the bigger question is, "Do I *really* need a 5850, or will a 6870 do just as well for less money."

That is for each of our brains to decide.  Some with dysfunctional brains might come to the wrong conclusion. That's life.

I know my original offer was high, but I still haven't heard a reasonable counter offer.

I never thought I'd get $200 for it, but that seems to be the market value for a card like this (in stock), and if some one has an reasonable counter offer, I'll take it.

Sorry, but a 5870 is going for just over $200 on eBay now...  $200 isn't worth it for a 5850 anymore.

I'd say you could probably sell it for $160, but I'm not offering you that much - I don't have anywhere to use another card.

I bought a Sapphire 5850 used from a guy on CL a couple days ago -- for $140.
That's still 60+ days payoff period, which is still a decent amount of time to be waiting for my first red cent of profit.

I was considering another guy's offer of a 5830 for $110 -- but the 5850 was slightly better at $140. Plus the 5850 is higher density for my last remaining open slot.
