bitmessage subscription addresses

I got bored and decided to check out bitmessage again.
I fired it up and left it running for a while, no messages from subscription addresses so far. I only subscribbed to bitmessage news ans such stuff. I suspect my bitmessage client is too old, so I'm going to try out an up to date version.

Could anyone be so kind and post interesting broadcast addresses?

Also, I keep seeing the dicussion about 'chans', what the heck is a 'chan'? How does it differ from a broadcast address?

Except that that forum thread has just a handful of addresses. I didn't mentioned it, I thought it was implicit that I already looked there.
