An ounce of gold.

I'll pay you a bitcoin for an ounce of gold.

What name would you give to the smallest unit of bitcoin (0.00000001)? sat. What name would you give to 100 sats? bit. 1 bit = 1 uBTC. 1,000,000 bits = 1 BTC. It's bits

For a true side by side comparison, why not compare the electricity costs to generate each?

You can plant the plant outside, then it requires no electricity. It is hard to do that with bitcoins. (Although, there is an "environmentally conscious mining" thread talking about that too.)

True, but a lot is still grown indoors using electrical power so I think it could be an interesting comparison anyway.

Don't forget fertilizer cost, recurring equipment cost (bulbs, etc).  I think mining is more profitable overall...especially due to risk.  Very similar in power usage and initial equipment cost though.

I know it is not exactly 1 bitcoin, but I thought I would point out that at the site http://bitcoin-hosting.com/?page_id=4 you can get 1 year of webhosting for 1.5 bitcoin. So I guess going with the theme of the thread, you can get 8 months of webhosting for 1 bitcoin.

This site is setting their price in bitcoin, and it is a great deal.

I guess it depends on the size of the steak and the size of the pizza?

Whereas befoe you could get a nice steak dinner for a bitcoin, now you could only get a mediocre steak dinner. You might be able to squeeze two Little Ceasar's Hot'n'Ready pizzas out of a bitcoin if you are lucky.

It would be fun to see an historical chart with Bitcoin vs real things rather than just other money.

A while ago somebody posted a thread with graphs of BTC vs XAU prices. I suppose there is some metric they use for inflation, a sort of basket of commodities that you could chart?
