Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

What purpose does the blockchain have in your project?

Primecoin is a cryptocurrency that was already launched in 2013, it is the first Scientific Proof-Of-Work Cryptocurrency with the intention of mining prime chains, Primecoin has broken several world records when it comes to finding prime numbers

or gpu only?

Mining Primecoin on CPU is no longer profitable, GPU mining does exist, like I said - Primecoin is a released cryptocurrency, so miners and pools are openly available

I'm trying to connect to a primecoind running as daemon using a second computer (supposed for mining only).

My config looks as follows:
Code:
server=1
daemon=1
listen=1

# You must set rpcuser and rpcpassword to secure the JSON-RPC api
rpcuser=primecoinrpc
rpcpassword=XXXX

# Listen for RPC connections on this TCP port:
rpcport=9000

# You can use Bitcoin or bitcoind to send commands to Bitcoin/bitcoind
# running on another host using this option:
rpcconnect=127.0.0.1

rpctimeout=16
rpcallowip=0.0.0.0/0
bind=192.168.180.30
externalip=192.168.180.30

Trying t connect from 192.168.180.31 (mining pc running ubuntu + primecoind as client only) results in HTTP 403 Error (using rpcconnect=192.168.180.30 and same rpcuser/rpcpassword)
Quote
error: server returned HTTP error 403

Any suggestions?

What are the benefits of mining prime chains?

Rather than mining cryptographic puzzles, Primecoin mines prime chains and those allow for the discovery of new prime numbers

Glad to see that interest has come up to revive the good old Primecoin project! It's been a while since no new development had appeared for XPM. Now that development would be taken to the next level, Primecoin can keep up to the toes of the rest of altcoins in existence. A new and improved Primecoin wallet would greatly make the difference and attract many more people into the cryptocurrency.

All it needs is a fresh new logo, some marketing and promotion, and it can compete with other cryptocurrencies. One thing that has always fascinated me about Primecoin is its mining structure which is unlike any other PoW based coin I've ever seen. When you mine XPM, you don't waste energy unlike most cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, since you'll be discovering new primes for the benefit of science.

With everything set back on track, new and exciting things can come up for Primecoin this year. A mobile wallet, and perhaps the comeback of the CPU miner would make XPM more interesting than ever!

Nevertheless, I'll be watching this thread closely for new updates. This revival of a well-established cryptocurrency is exciting, and I wish the OP lots of success. Smiley

Why the new thread? Is primecoin core different to the original primecoin at this thread?

Nice to see some new developments. Have been advocating a bit for that lately. Primecoin is quite different with GPU mining and the mining not just going to waste. Outsider to follow imo.

Science computing with cryptocurrency support is still rare project.
This will be a good starting project and not much rivals, since not many similar project available in the market.
What makes it good is that this project is listed in some interesting market place.

Hi Dev, could you explain why do you think that this project will be successful ? Now I see it is just clone of many others and this coin have not any special reasons for grow. Maybe I don't know anything, but what the differ from the another coins with this algorithm? It looks that you just try to improve your development and marketing skills, but not like serious project.
