The MEW is a safe means of storing funds itself. However, there are a lot of scammers in the network who try to access your account under various tricks.
I myself encountered when messages arrive on behalf of this wallet with a recommendation to change the security settings.
The links lead to phishing sites myetherwwallet, myetherwalllet, myetherwallett and so on.
You should beware of them and never enter your wallet using links from third sources.

MEW is safe and I don't think any malware can magically turn your saved link on your computer to phishing link in an instance.  90% of story of hack and theft we read is human error.  Be diligent enough to confirm the website you are logging  in to and don't click new link from anywhere.

Always bookmark the correct website link and whenever you want to login ensure that the SAL green bar was active before you attempt to unlock your wallet. Better still you may consider using Metamask chrome extension to manage your addresses.

If you afraid that MEW can be hacked use 'Send Offline' option.
I think it is the safest way to transfer your ETH or tokens.

And don't keep big amounts in one wallet.
Divide your portfolio into small parts.

MEW is safe as long as you are on the correct site, the one that was hacked before was etherdelta, though mew and ethereum transaction now is really heavy and so slow you need to put more gas to be more prioritize and get a faster transaction.

You already have the bookmark and will just need to verify if you have the right one.
Check the spelling because they do it with changing the letters.
Use Capital letters to make it all clear.

MEW (myetherwallet) is safe as always as long as you keep your private key secret and secured.
myetherwallet is one of the most flexible and secure wallet to store token! the real question is, IS ETHERDELTA SAFE NOW? this is the one whos been hacked before.

EW is safe if your MEW has not been exposed to phishing. because phising causes MEW we are easily exposed to hack. but if we always bookmark MEW and save our keystone file it will be safe. for me suggest you should prepare an offline wallet if saving coins in bulk and have a high price.

so far using the MEW wallet address is very safe to store your temporary tokens, as long as you do not share your private key, and to be safe again save your MEW address in bookmark to avoid fake mew address
