Bitmain Expands to Switzerland as China Cools to Bitcoin Miners

Bitmain, the China-based bitcoin mining giant, has set up a new subsidiary in Switzerland.

A report from Swiss-based news service Handelszeitung states that the company has based the subsidiary, Bitmain Switzerland, in Zug. The locale is the home of the "Crypto Valley," an area where a number of cryptocurrency and blockchain startups have headquartered thanks to a permissive regulatory environment.

The move - which comes amid reports that the Chinese government wants to slowly but surely quash the country's mining ecosystem – is said to be a notable one for the firm, according to statements. This, sources say, would be accomplished by curtailing access to supportive tax policies as well as the land and utilities needed to run a power-hungry bitcoin mine.

According to Handelszeitung, Bitmain is eyeing the Zug office as a way to grow its presence in Europe and, really, beyond its home base in China.

"Bitmain Switzerland will play a key role in our global expansion," Bitmain told the paper.

The company further said that it plans to expand its footprint in Switzerland over the coming months, hiring new employees and making a concerted effort to work with the government, including the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA).

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Oh Ok. Looks like Jihan has already put forward his contingency plans in case of a total mining ban in China. Switzerland is a good choice as we all know that they are one of the safest haven not just for banking or storing your hidden wealth but also for cryptosphere as well. I read that they are finalizing laws regarding crypto's including ICO, so I guess Belarus will have a friendly competition as far as ICO startup companies is concern. If we could "removed" China in the bitcoin map much better. They already contributed to the expansion and recognition of bitcoin, however they made a sudden U-turn. It will hurt the price, no doubt, but in the long term it will be really good if some nations like Japan will take over the bitcoin mining as well. And then we can totally forget about China.

In my oppinion, Belarus will have a big advantage over Switzerland due to lower prices for electric energy and a temporary tax free zone for all the crypto and blockchain activities.

Yeah, and mention the other advantages
Crumbling infrastructure
Corruption
No trading deals, no banking deals with the EU

I'm pretty sure everyone is thrilled about investing in Belarus.....
Who would want to invest there when all the people living in Belarus have only one dream, to get out of there?

I posted on Reddit about how China plan on phasing out mining there and got poo-poo, so I see Bitmain is making moves to retain their mining dominance.

I wonder how that's going to work as energy price is very high in Switzerland compared to China...
