I've tried about four exchanges so far, and I had major problems with three of them (coss.io, shapeshift.io, and Kraken).  GDAX is the only one that has been smooth for me.

That said, which exchanges do you find to be trustworthy?  Are there any others that run smoothly?

Not a single Exchange will work all the time they all have there problems if you juist want to buy crypto's and hold on to them I suggest you transfer your funds to a wallet.

Hard wallets are the moster secure but they cost money (Ledger nano s, trezor)

Not all Exchanges can work smoothly, some are having lag time that delays the transaction and can result wrong buying or selling order.Just make sure that you do not put all your money inside these exchanges for a long time as it can be hacked at any time. Store your cryto in a secured wallet like trezor and ledger Nano.

Well, you did a great job of not answering the question there. And since I have been looking for the same answer, I'm going to call you out on that.

The OPs question was not about holding or anything like that, it was about an exchange. Yes yes, we all know we should HODL.

But for those of us who want to have a more active participation, we'd actually like to know the decent exchanges.

Putting the question back out there.

FYI: GDAX = Coinbase, as far as I know....

I mostly deal with Cryptopia and I've had good luck with that one. I'll also use Livecoin or Kucoin occasionally. It is important to remember they're just exchanges though - not a good place to store coins longterm.

Yes GDAX works fine because it is CoinBase, but they don't offer a lot of trading pairs.
Binance works well too.

Binance is not accepting new customers at this time.

I have been buying currency at Coinbase and then sending it to Bittrex. For me Bittrex is user friendly and has all the coins you will need to trade with. Also when buying coins at Coinbase to send I advise buying bitcoin cash as its transaction fees are low and then when it arrives at Bittrex sell for Bitcoin, then look through the Bitcoin trades and buy what coins you deem best for you. If Bitcoin cash is unavailable at Coinbase buy Ethereum and send it instead.

Both Coinbase and Bittrex have been fine with me and I have had no problems.

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps. Good luck.

Decentralised exchanges mostly. There are some, for example BitShares.

Not many run smoothly. However, I really like the Chinese exchanges such as Binance and Kucoin. The interface is fairly simple to navigate and load times are pretty fast.

Bittrex. I have personal experience with this exchange it is good. A few months back their customer care service was very slow but I think now it's good. Most importantly I never heard about any security breach on Bittrex. You have to undergo a verification because unverified accounts cannot withdraw.

Exchanges, believe it or not are quite a touchy subject for certain people and with good reason; a lot of users have arrived too recently to remember the many, many, many exchanges that have fallen victim to hacks, seizures, shut-downs and outright exit scams. There has been millions of dollars stolen by, from and through exchanges over the years and so be careful when you're asking about the most trusted exchanges, because often the biggest exchanges are the ones which fall hardest.
For me, i would choose between cryptopia and binance, they are pretty good. Coinbase is very trustful but rather limited. And also freewallet is a very good one - with lots of coins availible and low fees.

Evilcrypt0, thanks for your review! Freewallet, however, is not an exchange service: we're using Changelly's API to perform exchanges in the app. We do, however, provide an opportunity to seamlessly convert your coins right in the app with a couple of taps, that's one of our key features.

Personally I have had no issues using Bittrex and Cryptopia over the last few months.
