yes, in the console:

setgenerate true -1

Not sure if it needs to wait for the synching to stop or what, but just leave it open and eventually you'll get a block I think. I wish there was a way to monitor it though, so you can know it's doing _something_.

I'm doing the same. You can monitor it under task manager: when it syncs, the cpu is not loaded. when it is synced the cpu load goes on 70 %. then it is doing something!
