If you take the time to read a little bit you can understand why, a lot of projects are running above the ETH network, I'm not sure about the number but a lot of coins are ERC20 tokens and when you take that into account, it is like Ethereum is like 500 coins in one, and that is why is so valuable, the ability to make smart contracts is something that is deeply appreciated in the community.

the reason why the price of etherium can be very high is because altcoin etherium is very good. because it has a smart-contract advantages commonly used by ico project masters as their payment path, therefore etherium is needed by other ico project

Actually the numbers tend to rise, are you surprised by that? I agree that it is the second most powerful currency, but Ethereum has not even shown his true potential for now. I'm not surprised.

The power of Ethereum is that it is actually being used for its intended purpose. There are not many coins that are actually being used as they were intended.  Go to coinmarketcap ... go to tokens only ... 92 of the top 100 tokens are riding on the Ethereum platform.
