Hey,

I am in doubt between these two GPUs. Wich one should I buy? I am not building a rig. I will use just one card. Here where I live, Brazil, the money I have to buy a GTX 1070 here is the same money that can buy a VEGA FE overseas. I mean, some friend of mine will grab this Vega from USA without I need to pay import taxes. Thank you for your sugestion and sorry if I made this thread in the wrong session.

I have both. what coin do you want to mine. Vega FE is loud and consumes much more power than GTX1070. But Eth hashrate is higher on Vega FE (~40MH/s) vs 1070 (30MH/s)

I want mine Monero and i read that VEGA FE has good hashes for Criptonight coins. How many hashes are you getting with Vega FE with Monero? Is it too loud? Heat too much? Because I live in Brazil and the climate here is hot. So maybe GTX 1070 is a better option because consume less power and is easier to cooldown?

I don't have Vega FE's, but I get 1800-1900 h/s on my Vega 56's.

Ok, I want you to walk back in there and very calmly, very politely tell the risk assessors to fuck off! -Mark Baum

GTX 1070 is not good for mining Monero. Vega is the best at mining Monero. Should be a simple choice.

If you end up with an Nvidia card, you'll want to look at the equihash algo.  Nvidia is going to be better at equihash than it will with cryptonight.

Just to end the topic. Wich one of those algos are better to mine, Equihash (Zcash) or Criptonight (Monero)? I mean wich one of those do you believe has greater chances to hit higher prices? Thank you.

For GPU, Suggest getting 1070.NVIDIA nice for algo EQUIHASH. When compared to VEGA FE (TDP 300 W), NVIDIA low power consumption (TDP 150 W). Also, Power Connector 1x8 PIN (1070), while VEGA FE (2x8 PIN), it, of course, can save the use of cable on the PSU.

For coins don't stick to the choice of one coin, meaning if it is a good moment to zcash. do it mining zcash, or vice versa. each person has different considerations when choosing, what coins should to be mining.

If you are concerned about heat, do NOT get a Vega FE.

Seriously. Don’t do it if you can not keep the card cool. It’ll throttle and you’ll be worse of than if you got the 1070.

Really, for a hot climate a Vega FE is about the worst choice you can make.

If the power consuming question is crucial, then GTX 1070 may be the better choice. Also, you can mine more profitable coins and convert them in Monero.

When it comes to ease of use and operation Nvidia is the superior. So many frustrating hours spent trying to get custom BIOS to work on AMD, compared to mere minutes of plug and play with Nvidia.

Not to mention, over the last week Newegg went from $749.99 to $849.99 for the Vega FE.

It was hardly worth it at $749 but $849? No way!

so got my frontier and added it to my 3 vega 56 board

Not sure what people are saying about them not playing well together tit works fine with the 56 cards with 64 bios

i still have this wierd issue

when the miner starts up hash rate (eth for now testing)

is 42-42 per card with the power play mod , then after 30 mins some cards drop to 40mhs and others to 37-38 where they are stuck

one card which i think is a lemon at cyrptonight or any alog drops to 33 after being at 43

I dont get it , since it starts after a while, temps are fine 70c at 35 fan speed

Either way I like the frontier cards , at $799 , I will switch them to cryptonight tomorow after i get my next eth block

and report back

--
Just bought another, looking at the prices of even 580s and 1070s - $600 and $800 respectively
the price of a vega FE 2000 h/s at 16GB for 800 to me is a no brainer.

That brings me to 5 Vegas.

If the price on other cards stays high , I'll just build a few FE cryptonight rigs.  payback on these cards is 4 months vs 6 months on other cards
eth mining at some point will be over anyways

The vega frontier sounds like a compromised buy because everything else is out of stock. You'll probably be hard pressed to resell this as well because when everything is in stock, people will be buying the vega 56 or 64 before picking the frontier as an option. My suggestion is to go for the gtx 1070. You can't go wrong because its more diverse in mining and there will be always be a market for 1070s.
