Great news! The Ridley's grocery store chain, Lolo's Fresh Food Warehouse and an Ace Hardware owned by Ridley's are going to accept bitcoin payment from Beccy and Austin, the Life On Bitcoin documentary movie couple. This is a trial run, and Mark (an executive at Ridley's corporate) said Ridley's would be interested in expanding their acceptance of bitcoin and looking for options to integrate it, so they can offer it to more of their customers at the point of sale if this goes well. We will see. You can read about it in more detail on our blog here http://lifeonbitcoin.com/lifeonbitcoin-day-22-progress-report-breakthrough/

We'll keep the updates coming here and on our Facebook and Twitter.

Cheers,

Theron H.

IRL grocery outfits are a big key to mainstream adoption, I've always thought this, and so here's a vital part of the puzzle edging into place. If they turn the trial into a permanent operation, they can expect a sudden wave of miners waving their smartphones around at the checkout tills...

This is awesome.  But when I've done transactions using multibit these have taken over an hour to validate!  Surely this would need to be completed before someone could leave the physical shop?

Or is this a non issue...

Now when we approach grocery stores in Vancouver, we can point to the fact that Ridley's is already doing it.  Cool You blazed a trail

If someone were so inclined to edit the Ridleys Family Market Wikipedia page, here is the link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridley%27s_Family_Markets

i'd hold off on editing ace hardware, and lolo's doesnt have a page.

way to go lifeonbitcoin!
