Biometric does add another layer of security as well as it adds another layer of compromise. Imagine an organization (public, private or government) that collects users' (employees or citizens) biometrics. This can be huge benefit to protect the organization and its people... until someone hacks the database and obtains your biometrics. Now you are in trouble, you can't change your fingerprint, iris, ...etc. and you will have to live a compromised life.

Unfortunately, some organizations are making it mandatory to collect biometrics and there is no way around that.
