I used my old i5-7500 as CPU for my new mining rig. CPU is cryptonight minig 24/7. Temperatures are around 60º.

I know CPU is only a small profit, but It's better than doing anything.

I am considering doing overclock, but never overclocked any CPU. Is OC worth for CPU mining? Which OC level would you use?

Thanks Smiley

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

You already said it yourself, "i know CPU is only a small profit." Why would you risk your i5 which costs way more than that small profit? Temperatures won't stay at 60 degrees forever. The more you use your CPU for mining the more you wear it out and pretty soon you'll have CPU temps out of control.

Don't risk your i5 for a few silly dollars. Just get a GPU if you really want to mine.

Even if you try to overclock your CPU the i5 5th gen that you have is the locked one so even if you have a z270 motherboard you cannot overclock it. Also since Intel blocked the base clock overclock sometime since the 6th gen you cannot do any overclock at all.
