GPU safe temperature RX580? 72C normal?

Hi guys,

Total noob here... Finally got my rig up and running with 6 rx580s... btw, thanks to all those who helped me out along the way.

I ran my rig for a few hours and am getting into an issue with temperature readings. Some of the cards run at a higher temp than others.
As far as I checked, the spacing and physical location doesnt really change the temperature read outs. I keep them all fairly separated.

Most of them average at 66C, but there is one card that runs like 72C. Is this normal in your rigs?  or should I do something about that card that runs hotter than others?

They all average about 29.5MH/s with about 15-20% undervolt thru MSI AFterburner

Above 70C is not that bad but not that good either.
I guess 60-70C is the good temps, the lower the temps the better it is.
Anyway, add -cvddc 900 in claymore bat file and don't do MSI undervolting. You'll see better results.

72 is fine mine runs constant at 70 with only exhaust fans

It will really depend on the configuration of your rig for the card that has a 72c temperature maybe some of your cards are close to each other, but 72c is not bad by any means as long as the card is not spiking up around 80c+ plus you ambient room temperature.

I tested them individually on the rack, it actually hit 72C all by itself. I tried reverting it back to stock BIOS and underclock both cpu/mem, and it was doing about 24MH/s at 64C. Not sure if its just silicon lottery or there is something I can tweak?

thanks for the tip! will give it a try.. I tweaked most cards to 1000 mV (GPU) but there is one card that couldnt run stable at that voltage when overclock/one-click patched so I had to leave that one at stock voltage. Thats also the card that runs up in temp.

btw, thanks to all those who responded.

I forgot to mention ambient temperature, its actually a pretty cold day around here, about 53F/12C ambient.

trying to decide if I should add an industrial type fan from a short distance or just a few 12cm system fans in front of the gpu rail? help me decide...!!

72C is fine imo. The default fan curve for the GPU allows it to go much higher, without the fan kicking in and sounding like an airplane taking off.

I have a couple of GPU's (not RX580's though) that are running in mid 70's and are running fine and consistent. If you like, you can increase the fan speed manually with msi afterburner or a similar program, which can help bring it down if you're worried. I think the main thing in terms of temperature is to make sure you don't stress the cables by having too many adapters, or converting from molex to sata, or anything like that.

the fans on that card spinned up @60% speed when the card hit 72C.... I think the bios had the fan power profile at 20/40/60.. or something like that

..and i think at some temp its supposed to thermal throttle, but it hasnt done that yet...

I had a Radeon 6990 run at 100C for years and never had any issues. That was a reference model.

I applied -cvddc 900 flag in my bat file but whenever I do that, the gpu remains idel and i got 0.000 MH/s....

what am I doing wrong?
