I don't think it is a crucial year for bitcoin. It is just one of the stepping stones for it to become more mature. Bitcoin still has a long way to go and it will be a successful technology in the long run.

To me it is crucial in the sense that we have already seen a lot of ups and down in bitcoin, price, too much important news has bee printed, still chances are to happen something great about bitcoin, therefore i think that it is not wrong to say that 2018 is a crucial year for bitcoin. It is normal for bitcoin to have a crucial year now 2018 because the 2017 is just a full of aggressive bulls and a panic buying year so this is the year for bitcoin to have a correction and that is why a lot of people are expecting for bitcoin to lower a bit more in the incoming weeks but for me, even though it happen, i will still hold since there is no other way for bitcoin but to go up in terms of long term movement.

2018 is not the most successful for bitcoin, and, in principle, for all crypto-currencies.  But maybe everything will change.

Yes, 2018 is a very crucial year for bitcoin where the fluctuation seems to go down deeper and takes a very bear market and harldy push back to increase it's market value back to $7.8K. However, I still believe in bitcoin and I'm pretty sure this will be corrected soon in due time. Actually there are another year that bitcoin price was dropping. 2014 is one of them.
