You could invest in a good ICO and better join a telegram group, if you are in doubt then top 20 in coinmarketcap is a good coin they are more stable than the other altcoins. hope you do some research.

If 500 usd is 'all' you're gonna be investing (not that it is a small amount of money, but if you don't have any money already in cryptocurrencies) I would suggest splitting it and investing smaller amounts in multiple ico's and/or alts. Investing in one project is basically putting everything on red.. It can turn out great of course but you'd probably be better off choosing multiple interesting projects and spreading your portfolio.

With 500 dollars you could for example invest 0.1 ether in 5 projects or 1 neo in 4 projects (with the current prices of course)

If that 500$ is spendable, i guess you need 1 coin of a great project to make it big. For now i can only suggest VLB becuase it is a great project in my opininon because of some reasons like :

Just pick whatever project you think will take off. If you a car owner, I'd recommend you putting your money in VLB, it will benefit you in more ways then one.

In your case, for most chance of success i would invest in Altcoin that will rebrand or do some event that will effect it. Investing such amount in bitcoin doesnt sound worth it. If you want to hold it go for some privacy coin since it will probably go up by itself. Otherwise play with rebrands and events.

I think you can invest in Altcoins, and maybe you can spend a few percent to invest in Bitcoin, invest in altcoin that has good prospects in the future.

although $500 is not too much to invest in altcoin or bitcoin, he could still buy some altcoin after he buy bitcoin because he still need to have bitcoin as the main investment. I suggest to him to buy at least 3 altcoins with cheap price and don't sell it if the price does not increase more than %40 so he can try to make a big profit. and don't spend all of bitcoin he has because, in the end, bitcoin price will increase higher than now so it is better to still keep his bitcoin for a while.

I think it's better if your 500 USD will invest in ETH because Ethereum is a good performance in recent years especially now that they have a lot of project out here and many know that when Bitcoin has down its price at zero or so without it. It is likely that ETH will replace the bitcoin position when it occurs. but you still decide on this matter

You can invest in bitcoin since its value today is very much cheaper than the original price. But if you also want to invest in altcoin, you can invest in ethereum. There are also more ICO that is good for investments, like Quantum1NET. Other than that you can try the Litecoin and Ripple. This altcoins are goo coins also. But if i were you do not invest only in one altcoin instead you should divide that 500$ from different altcoins.

I recommend you to buy an altcoin or token . Participating on ICO's that is legit will make you profitable in time . Like now I participate on diwtoken.com and I can find this token very useful and price will go to the moon   .  Don't forget also to research on new ICO's if they are legit or if you feel ICO is  a scam then try others until you find one .
