驻美公使李克新于13日出席华盛顿中国和平统一促进会举办的理事会换届大会。李克新在致辞中表示，十九大召开后，中华民族迎来了从站起来、富起来到强起来的飞跃，以及复兴的光明前景，两岸同胞比以往任何时刻都更有条件和办法化解心结，消除隔阂，增进福祉，融洽感情，凝聚认同，“我们遏制台独的手段更多了，主导台海形势发展的能力更强，推进祖国实现统一的心更足了。看清这一点，我们就会对从事的反独促统事业充满信心。”新理事长吴惠秋也表示，台独势力跳得越高，外部势力对台干涉越多，实现中国完全统一的时间就会越早。
