Please find attached my entry for the Solaris Logo contest and the general direction I'd like to see the Solaris branding take.
My design covers your brief requirements in that it is professional, modern, iconic and instantly recognisable yet also has a more high-end, luxury & exclusive feel.

I took inspiration from the alchemical icon for gold, the energy/power of the Sun, the infinity symbol but instead making the "S" shape more prominent. The infinity loop also represents all things being connected, exchangeable and transmutable. You'll notice the infinity symbol also doubles as an "X" shape that mirrors the $XLR ticker when sitting along-side.

I've attached multiple options & variations, a draft of how this could look on a redesigned website, as well as exactly how the icon holds up at Blockfolio and CoinMarketCap size. I'd be happy to work with the team to implement any feedback or tweaks you would like to see.

My Background

Fulltime freelance branding designer with 10 years experience. I've recently created a lot of crypto related logos: logo for one of ConsenSys' side projects, a branding design for one of the Ethererums cofounders' VC firm, and the mark design of an upcoming ICO, to name just a few. I never participate in (free) logo design contests but because I like Solaris I decided to make an exception.


General Thoughts on the Solaris Rebranding

The previous logo and typeface were not the best, but still iconic. I generally advise companies that are rebranding to make sure the new logo is somewhat similar to the previous one, because of customer recognition. That's why my 3 logo concepts are not a new concept from scratch, but the previous idea in a more polished execution. The gold/meteor symbolism is great because gold on earth most likely comes from meteorites from other galaxies. A bit like how cryptocurrencies are a revolutionary form of payment that feel like it came from another planet which (like gold) has to be mined.


Concept 1

Strong and simple meteorite with the letter "S". This will help the mark stand out even when used on its own. When the mark seems to be flying to the bottom left it looks like a meteorite coming towards us, granting use precious materials. When it seems to go up or to the top right, it is a metaphor for increasing in value or going to a new frontier.

This time the mark combines the meteorite/gold symbol with a node-like style that has a tech feel to it. It shows different nodes working together for a common goal. This line-style also gives it a real alchemy-symbol feel, like the original.

Here the metaphor "data" and "meteorite" are combined. The trail looks like a stream of data, representing the digital nature of Solaris.
