When I search the forum the search functionality will be locked for 90 secs, thats way to high and wastes our time. 5 sec would be enough.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Same when you're logging in.. 45 sec timeout if you fail to login is too much. Should be like first 5 tries can be with 0-3 sec timeout and if 5th try fails, give that 1 minute timeout or so.

That limitation is there so people cannot crash/disrupt the database, as database calls are limited in this fashion.

I think there are enough accounts being hacked here already, thank you very much.

Heh. I think maybe it should be more intelligent to different kinds of failed login (failed password should be longer than failed username)..

yes i agree with this, 45 secs of logging in incorrectly is absolutely ridiculous. Who comes up with this shit?

When I tried searching, my first search had no results. My refined search also had no results.
Terms: "Bitcoin rank" "Wealthy Elite"

I ended up entering the (second) search string into Google appending "site:bitcointalk.org" to the end.

Somebody on the #bitcoin IRC chat commented:
Quote
<YouIsCat> Congratulations on feeding the beast.
<YouIsCat> Did you enjoy being wiretapped in the NSA terminal called "Google"?

Seen in that light, the non-working search is actually a security risk.

Edit: Obviously the timer was added after the search function was used to DDOS the forum. Perhaps making searches more "burstable" would help:
-You are allowed 1 search every 5 seconds -- logic fail?
-You are allowed 2 searches every 20 seconds
-You are allowed 3 searches every minute -- dupe
-You are allowed 4 searches every 5 minutes
