Hello, I have an unconfirmed transaction that is seen by 1 peer, and it has been almost an hour

I've been having difficulties with multibit sporadically for some time, but I know this one has the automatic fee sent with it too

which was .0001  is the fee supposed to be .0005 ? I don't see a place to set that

0.0001 is the right standard fee, unless your transaction is made up by a lot of other transactions (incoming transactions are like coins in your pocket, you cannot divide them when you use them, but cou can receive a change).
1 hour can happen sometimes, as the time a block is found can vary a lot (usually it's less than 10 minutes though).

Don't know about that "seen by 1 peer" though, that does sound low.

Have a look in the Support section in either the help inside MultiBit or online.
There is a topic:

The easiest way is just to leave the send confirmation screen open for a little while after you do the actual send.

The number of peers that have seen that transaction is updated in real time.
The icon updates too. You can normally tell within ten seconds if the transaction has been successful.

If you see the number of peers go to 2 or more, that is a pretty reliable guide that the transaction is propagating thru the Bitcoin network. If it stays stuck on 'Seen by one peer' ie the square icon then you know it has not propagated (yet).

I agree it is not terribly obvious but all the icons and what is happening is covered in the help. In the next version of MultiBit there is a context sensitive help icon on the Transactions page to take you straight to the relevant help page.
