Okay, so I sell ASICMINER USB miners on Ebay, among other things.  I am still fairly new to selling, and didn't realize how important tracking is until a month ago (even a signature requirement is my mandatory practice  now).

Anyways, this Italian guy won my auction, and so I get this in my inbox:

him: "Hi, you know some thing about my 2 usbs???"

me: "It has been 7 business days since shipment. If it doesn't show up in 3 business days  please let me know! Your package is the first I have ever sent to Italy, so I'm not sure what delays there are. In the worst case scenario I will give you a full refund on your order. "

him: Hi again. I don't received nothing yet, I want to wait to Monday, after that I tell you if is arrive or not. Fuck the Italian poste.

(a week later)....

him: Hi, i dont see USB yet?!??!

Well something about this doesn't seem right, I thought.  I knew I had to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I wanted to test him a little bit first.  So I threw some bullshit at him:

me: "Looks like a lost package. If they have been stolen, I'll be able to use their internal MAC addresses to trace them on the blockchain network for investigators to follow.
In the meantime, I will issue a complete refund on Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience."

And here's his response not even 3 hours later:

him: "Ok I found the pack. It is ok. Thx"

Yes... the package magically appeared in front of him within 3 hours after his last message.  Nice try, buddy...   Roll Eyes  I'll be keeping your money

That's a rough loss, and that's why the signature part is important too.  Even if its not the receiver that signs, at least the delivery is proven!

I have actually sold on ebay internationally a handful of times and have not had a problem with lost packages or a claim about something damaged/broken. I guess I just got lucky because we know ebay has a lot of scammers!

Report his ass to ebay!

Unfortunately my proof wouldn't be solid enough, and this could end up with a negative feedback score on my account.
I'd rather just move on.  It will be hard for anyone to pull this again when they have to sign for it now..

hahaha op good for you. you should have kept it going, like "are you sure? i have a friend in italy who is a security guard, i will tell him to visit your house with a few buddies to inspect that the package was found just now".

I like how you called his bluff though!

Unfortunately you can't report this to eBay because you can't really prove anything. The only way to sell on eBay is when you are eligible for full seller protection. You need to send your items with a signature confirmation to be eligible for seller protection. I don't think all countries have this feature, so it is best to check before opening up the auction to all countries.

Unfortunately, it is still a huge headache if someone disputes a transaction... even with seller protection.

Glad you got it squared away!  Hey, maybe he actually did find the package after your last message  Roll Eyes

haha nice!~

Something similar happened to me, where I sold a Apple wireless keyboard on ebay.. I mailed out the item, but did not provide a tracking to the buyer, because i was lazy to run to the car and grab the receipt with the tracking. Anyways told the guy I didn't buy tracking for it, and 2 weeks later, he files a paypal claim on me for no item received... So I get the tracking number and look it up, What do you know, RECEIVED, WITH SIGNATURE! Needless to say, he didn't even reply to any of my PM's guess he felt embarrassed.

You should have issued a refund and then charged him with fraud!   Cheesy
