Over the past few weeks I have been trying to upgrade my various alt-coin, LTC based, wallets from ver 6.X to ver 8.X with NO BLOODY SUCCESS.

LTC upgrade went fine...

Does anyone havean idiots guide to upgrading alt-coin wallets like PXC or WDC?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

all you need to do is download and run the qt.exe. and probably a good idea to backup wallet.dat
