According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in
Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it
will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

isn't flickr intended more for personal stuff? (i would prefer self-hosted owncloud in this case anyway)
i see imgur as just a "tool" for uploading and linking arbitrary (public anyway) images, and the right tool at that for this purpose (although they offer accounts too)

This is what I thought too. I never use Flickr, but the only time I use Imgur is to upload images to places that I need a link to upload (such as this forum). I don't have an account and don't have anything saved on there.

I suggest signing up for both, for it doesn't take much time to do such and the learning curve for each is quick. Interact with the interface on both a couple of times, and you'll soon learn with option is right for your needs.

Why do you need to host images? What you use depends a lot on how many people are going to be looking at/ loading the images.
I like Dropbox myself for personal image hosting when I don't need a gallery, but that's just because its so convenient. Picasa is OK if you like google products.
I use Amazon S3 and CLoudflare CDN for hosting web images that need to load quickly.

Have a small personal blog running on a vps and thought it was a way to save on storage. Ive been told I should just host on the vps directly

Imgur is so much better imo. I prefer the layout, controls and the community!

Try them out for yourself. There is no point in us telling you what we think you would like. Only you know that. Trial and error sometimes is the best way. Maybe, after you have tested both you can post some feedback on which one you like better and why.

Flickr if you want to share with friends, show off your albums to the world etc.
If all you need is a place to upload images and link them, imgur is the best.
