Recently I signed up for a few airdrops. Today I searched those tokens in the MEW tokens list. But, nothing were there. Then I added them myself as custom tokens. My question is, can they be lost if some of those tokens were offered before I add them to my MEW account?

No it won't lost.

Maybe the the token distribution haven't started yet. When you received it you will able to see it at MEW.

Ask the developer, maybe you didn't get the token also because it's already reach limit.

You can search for transactions on Etherscan. When you go to Etherscan you have below option called Token transfers.
If you got something you will see it there.
You can add tokens to the list as you said and follow what you got in MEW.

As long as the contract for the token exists then the token will not be lost.

Contracts don't go away once they are built.
